2024-25 Laval Rocket Thread

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.
    • Our 2025 light and dark themes were lost, so we are rebuilding them. Light theme is currently available, but work in progress

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

Rochester vs Laval...again hazy arena. MARCH 7

st...M 1st pair. R 2nd pair. Very short shifts. M and Wotherspoon switch sides on this shift. Don't like it. R and Engstrome have done it too on another game. R is doing the general thingy directing players but pulls himself too far. He's playing man-man where when it's this deep it's suppose to be zone. M 1st PP. R 2nd PP. M on PP, way too much passing around.

M must of got his ass kicked because he flew back to his zone as soon as opposing player got the puck. R tried a bit of his Bobby Orr but got stopped cold. One thing that gave me a cold sweat, he was on his knees and when he got up on one, it looked like it schook.

2nd...Hughes let's one in, a floater from blue line...OUCH. R owes coffee to M. M makes a great pass from deep in his zone to the forward trio, they score but R replaced M and he got the +1. Nothing special period

3rd...good period by both. M gets a minus with a tictaktoe goal behind him. If he played deeper he would prevent it but then the slot would be wide open.

Laval is clearly better then Rochester but they almost tied it.

Rochester vs Laval.. V2 March 8

1ST....M 1ST pair with Wotherspoon...and no Reinbacher***. Somebody has to explain to me why M starts a shift playing on the left side. He mastered his RHD so now put some flight time on the left? M on 1st PK. Rest of period normal shift/performance.

Rocket dominated. Rochester first shot was with 3 minutes left.

2nd...M twice gets trapped in their zone by holding from Rochester players. Partly his fault because he loves to pinch deep. Score 1-0 and the goal is all on him.

He's inside the opposition blue line, is doing a Hutson on the blueline but bobles the puck then loses it for a breakaway. The guy he's checking doesn't score, they guy behind does on the rebound and of course Roy doesn't cover him. In fact Roy just gave up and cruised in instead of playing the second man in. If he played the 200ft game, maybe there isn't a goal. Regardless, first blame on M.

Mailman wears it like a thorny crown. M is shown pacing the corridor...and he looks pissed and upset. GREAT. That's a whopper that should leave a scar. Benched for 2 shifts then out there.

M on PP. Again he's failed on situational awareness. He goes to help his forward against a player coming down the Rockets right side and misses the two opponents coming down the middle left. The correct play was ignore his forward and that opposing player and pay attention to the two guys coming down uncovered. No damage.

Period to forget.

3rd...M plays a meat and potatoes game. Low risk, deep in his zone.

M didn't have a good weekend.

Engstrom got a stick in the face in the second and missed the rest of the game.

REIN IS OUT BECAUSE OF THE INJURY RETURN PROTOCAL.

Engstrom- I thought that was a puck and I swear he came back.

Harvey-Pinard - what’s going on with him? He had that 20 point in 34 game season with Montreal not long ago…but since then nothing. Is it injuries or something else?

Thanks

He had his 15 minutes of fame. He played well above average during that time. I think he just took advantage of good ice time with some good players in a lost season. No one cared at that point. He doesn’t even play like that in Laval anymore. He doesn’t play with the same tenacity at all.

Freakin knew it, it's Kirby Dach 2.0.
Could be a groin or muscle. No need to panic.

RHP was effective playing a certain type of game that was never going to be sustainable given his stature.
Injuries were inevitable if he was to be of value. I knew he was done last season after he came back when I saw him get stood up twice in his tracks while trying to skate up ice. That isn't what a fourth liner is supposed to look like. Now when I watch him in Laval it's evident the rigors and injuries have taken a toll.

To those that are familiar with Laval, would Davidson not deserve to be brought up to see what he can do? Not to knock Roy, but he had some time already and has showed little. Davidson's game from what I remember is that he gets more involved and has more umph to his game

I can finally post about this here. The sole move by the Rocket was to sign Will Dineen to a PTO.

6'2 C who is good on faceoffs and zone exit/entry. Captain at Yale. Not exactly great offensive numbers (18 points in 30 games), but it was good enough 2nd on the team so he maybe would have better numbers elsewhere.

So for the Rocket, the known reinforcements are Dineen and Kapanen, with the possibility of Rohrer, Harris, Fowler and Thorpe once their season is done.

Son of Kevin Dineen

Davidson's production seems to have fallen off a cliff and I found his line Mesar Beck Davidson to be one of the least effective 5v5 recently even before Beck was called up. They are not having anywhere near the impact they had early in the season. It's to the point where I say they should be broken up. Beck seems to be playing on the fringes and neither he nor Jared are showing the aggressive zone play and dominance we saw earlier in this campaign. Meanwhile Mesar is completely out of sorts and nothing is working for him.

I haven’t been impressed these past 2 games. They’d better smarten up if they want to compete in the playoffs. Losing to Bridgeport was brutal and they really didn’t look that great against Utica even though they won.
