While checking the AHL players of the week, I was surprised to notice that only two Habs' farmhands had won the award since Oct 23, 2016. Sven Andrighetto won it way back in Oct 2016. Logan Mailloux won it Nov 2, 2024! Does not necessarily mean anything, just odd.

I’m not totally surprised. The Habs have a history of promoting top talent quickly, and for years we drafted very poorly outside of a few outlier years.

What does that history of players look like? Is it riddled with successful nhlers?

Just looked it up and it is not a predictive list. Mostly carreer AHLers with some stat players winning it once during their Rapid ascension to the NHL. Fun fact: Corey Locke won it!

Beck is a gamer. End of discussion

Rein...makes debut. Vincent puts him on second pk and Rein does a savard belly swim. Bad idea and gets scored on. Second goal not his fault. Third goal he owns. Skates by and behind the net while the goalie didn't have full possession. Bad goal 75% on him. 4th goal Rein gets tangled with a rushing forward and the forward behind him picks up the puck and scores. 100% on Rein.

Mailman...does a full Math. Breaks in, carries the puck and eventually hangs in the slot and scores. 2nd goal...did I ever mention he has a hard shot? Shoots and scores from the top of the circle. 5th goal against, M pinches deep, the play goes by him and he can't get back fast enough. 75% on him. 4th goal, M pinches very deep passes and assists on the 4th goal.

2nd period...PP and Mailmam already has 2 of the 3 goals but Vincent The Idiot puts Mailman/Engstrom on the 2nd PP. Somebody has to explain that to me.

Bottom line...Rein probably played 25 minutes on his first AHL game, FAR TOO MUCH but Vincent The Idiot had his shiney new toy and was going to overuse him. Even to the point of losing the game. Rein played OK but lost many if not most of the 1-1 battles and occasionally looked lost. Not a bad start but neither anything great. I'm not going come to any conclusion in one game.

The weird thing is I went to the scoreboard and Rein was on for 3 goals against excluding the PK but show -2. Don't they have enough fingers in the AHL to count properly?

Mailman did his Mailman thing, looking like an All Star offensive defenseman with 2 goals, one assist and a dunce cap on one goal. Basically no different from what Math has done in the last 2 years. It's just that Math has elite skating and covers up some of his mistakes.

EDIT...Mailman has to power skate all summer until his toes drop off. His deep pinches is what's causing 70% of the goals against.

Gotta imagine Hughes isn't back next year.

Started off strong, but hasn't really been that good since, even when the team was rolling it wasn't no confidence, but you knew the team would have to battle.

Last night saw the same. He can make saves, but he can't make the right ones if that makes sense
