2024 25 Kraken Roster Discussion

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

Daccord starting tonight against a Calgary team that’s still very much chasing a WC spot.

I don’t understand this team. Why are they still acting so sweaty about this? Play f***ing Grubauer.

Ha my uncle who is a Canucks fan text saying they really need us to win tonight
yeah exactly. Do Bylsma and Co seriously think they can stave off whatever fate Francis and ownership have waiting for them if they win a couple more games at this “you’re all but eliminated” stage of the season?

This team's root problem starts with the team D, backup goaltending and iffy coaching. The offense is spotty but leaking bad goals every game is a more serious problem.

I would say in terms of the composition of the roster, you'd expect the team to have bigger issues with offense. We don't have the topliners.

Compositionally we are closer to being able to play a grind it out defense but after the revolt against Hakstol we're naturally swinging away from cautious defensive hockey.

The team has never had any real identity. Or any real leader. Our 'identity' has been a depth team or an energy team. Is that really an identity?

It was for a year.

Winning teams have identities but I'd say it comes more from the winning - being good at hockey and so being able to impose your style. If you're not good enough to do that then there's no style to be expressed.

Is it fair to say the play off season is looking like a bit of a fluke where the star aligned a bit vs the talent on the team?

It wasn't a very talented roster - less talented than the current one - but it had a lot of high end grinders (Tolvanen - Gourde - Bjorkstrand was amazing before Gourde fell off) and a heavy forechecking system that was well suited for them. That's not a fluke.

How quickly did Carolina become competitive post Ron Francis? Was it the case that he had left them a decent farm system to build on and the next gm just took more risks in wheeling and dealing that Francis won't do or did he leave them a mess?

Immediately.

He had left them a great pool of young talent. Aho, Slavin, etc...

And yes, the Waddell/Dundon/Tulsky team made a few big moves that changed things right away. They hired Rod Brind'Amour, dumped Jeff Skinner, and traded Hanifin and Lindholm for Dougie Hamilton.

As I recall he drafted well and left them with a deep talent pool of prospects but had to work with an internal cap when it came time to build out his roster each offseason.
