If we could nurse a first round pick for Gourde that would be great. Regardless I'd much rather go the picks route with Gourde than trade him for Robertson who seems to me to be a likely career third liner, if that.
Yeah. For Gourde, I would definitely prefer a better prospect than Robertson. That and I think the team already has enough small-ish wingers. We could use some more size at forward.

Or just go for pure picks. I think Gourde at 50% + a 4th (or something small like that) could end up getting us a late 1st round pick.

I get Olofsson because of the Borgen trade but don't get the Meyers one. We healthy scratched Kartye last game for Sprong so had an extra forward. Guessing there is another injury we don't know about? Or maybe an upcoming trade (unlikely).

Felt like Meyers being a halfway capable bottom-6 C got him a fair bit of run from Bylsma. I think that's about the only thing that sets him apart from the others you mention.

EDIT : I retract this statement, I got Meyers and Stephens mixed up. I have no clue why they brought Meyers back up.

Projected out to 82 games, Beniers finishes the season with less than 10 goals. That's incredibly concerning.

Maybe Beniers should get a game or two on Gourde's wing?

Not sure what's going on with him but if it were me I'd be jettisoning McCann from either the roster or the top line for a few games/weeks and see what happens. Not only has he not looked the same offensively but he's pretty much been an active detriment defensively.

I’d bet my mortgage he’s playing with an injury.

Well shit. If Daccord is injured, might as well start looking at trading Gourde, Tanev now and even look at moving any of the vets who can return some value.

I haven't been paying too much attention the last few days - do we know that it's Daccord and not Grubauer?

Strip the roster and soft tank for a shot at Hagens.

I know tanking isn't a great strategy but being meh, finishing around .500 missing the playoffs and picking around 10th isn't a great plan either.

We are already picking 8th based on the current standings. Based on teams points % we are picking 5th already. This team does not need to do much to "tank". If you trade Gourde, I think we are fairly certain to end up in the top-5.

For a team like us, selling just makes sense. My only "concern" with that is how that plays with the kids like Beniers, Wright and Evans as well as the new signings like Montour and Stephenson. Not that I care what Stephenson thinks, since he is part of the problem anyway.

I don't see how Francis does any of this.
Dude is desperate and if we somehow win some games and are anywhere near the playoff spots he'll probably even keep the vets to try and save his job.

Though, what you're saying does make sense.

Most of us suspect the season is already a write-off and it's not even New Years yet. If Daccord is hurt, it makes no sense to continue the struggle; best to take advantage of the circumstance and go for a favourable draft pick. I'm definitely not a fan of tanking, but this would pretty much be just letting nature take its course along with a few judicious trades to help trim some marketable veterans from the roster while they still have value. Seems like the best strategy open to us.

I don't think we'll have to try to fail, it's happening somewhat organically. Trading a few vets could help. Or the call-ups replacing them could provide a spark. Let's hope not, but we can't rule it out.

I hope Bylsma has them focused on trying to win either way, I've seen how bad the long term damage is when the whole team gets in on the tank.

Despite the absurdity of our free agency signings, I think the overall set of moves points towards Francis being focused on the long run. It's more on ownership to recognize the situation and be clear with him that his job isn't hinging on what the club does in the next few months. They've either already concluded that he isn't the guy to take us to that long run, or they've decided that he is. But they're not going to pressure him to try and win and do win-now moves with a weak roster late in a lost season.

I've always seen this when teams have lost seasons - people think the GM is going to flail around to keep his job - and it has happened before on some clubs. It's really up to ownership to be clear that we're focused on the long run now.

I agree with that and the Stephenson signing was horrible but anything after the top 3 is a crap shoot in this draft. Beniers and Wright should realize this is a business and if you want to get good you need to make moves and veterans need to be dealt .

That would depend on ownership wouldn't it? One would hope he has a decent relationship and will get the okay to do one or the other.

ngl I posted this because part of me hoped they left Burakovsky home because they had traded him, and wanted to share the sadness that it proved not to be the case
