I won’t lie, I honestly don’t care about the 4-Nations Tournament (or NHL taking a break mid season to let players play in the Olympics for that matter), but saw a post from ECH today mentioning that with each team naming their rosters, it’s looking like no Kraken players will be playing in the event.

To which I thought “which of them deserve it?”

Montour? Canada is stacked, so who gets bumped?

Canada is going large with long sticks on D. Mountour is as talented as any of 'em, but Coop wants the beef. BTW, watching the Hawks and B's tonight and gotta say, you guys are SO fortunate to have Forslund calling your games. I can't hear him unless Krak are on a national broadcast, but what a frickin gem he is.

He really is.

Montour isn’t exactly alone, there are a lot of really good players left off the Canada and US rosters.

Maybe it’s just me, but I have zero interest in the Four Nations thing. Russia is predictably not there, rightly or wrongly, but to overlook Czechia is unconscionable.
The whole thing just feels like a Temu Olympics.

It’s like this CFP crap (which I have zero interest in)…no matter what number you pick as the cutoff, there will always be someone who thinks they were left out or that the number should be higher.

Good points, but its not supposed to be a World Cup or Olympics. It's just a "Four Nations" event. It'll still be great hockey IMO.

I don't even remember the name of these minor tournaments a week after they end let alone who won them.

I hate any and every new tournament in any league or sport. If it hasn’t been there for decade, why does it need to be? That said, I’m cool with the expansion of current tournaments. I also don’t watch a lick of international hockey, baseball or soccer (except the World Cup in soccer and some Olympics in hockey) so the only thing I actually care about is being bored for a couple of weeks when the NHL is on break. Boooooo!

Yeah, I don't care as well.

Though, that's mostly given it's an intenaational "tournament" that doesn't include my country and I don't care about the other ones in those tournaments.

Was looking at what the team might do roster-wise when Eberle comes back, and noticed something I found interesting.

Stephens has actually done decently well at faceoffs during this call up, going 13-7. Small sample size but still.

Winterton, also listed as a Center on most roster websites, hasn’t taken a single faceoff yet.

Stephenson leads the team by far in faceoffs taken (521, Beniers is second with 393), and is the only Kraken center consistently taking faceoffs whose win rate is higher than 50%.

Prying this exchange out of the last GDT, but one of the problems with Beniers on his current trajectory is that he’s not playing to the level of his current salary. A $7.1m cap hit nets you a guy like Clayton Keller, Kyle Connor or Tage Thompson, and he’s nowhere near that level.

If he projects out to a “Bergeron” then perhaps he grows into it, but he’s definitely not playing to the cap number at this specific moment in time.

Kyle connor signed that deal 6 years ago. No way 7m gets you kyle connor these days. Just like 4 or 5 years into this deal it may look really cheap for beniers not just because he probably improves from 22 to 25 years old, but also because the cap will probably be 10-15m higher.

Connor signed the deal in 2019, after posting 30+ goals two seasons in a row and 57 and 66 points respectively in his 2nd and 3rd seasons in the league. There was absolutely no reason at the time to believe he was on any other trajectory than the one he's been on.

Yes and if he signed a deal today after putting up those stats he'd get more than 7m.
