2024-25 James Norris Memorial Trophy finalists: Quinn Hughes, Cale Makar, Zach Werenski

There's no way you can watch any of those defensemen and think they're close to Quinn Hughes.

Insecurity does strange things to a hockey fan...
I get that people like to think Quinn doesn't play well in his own end, but the Canucks splits with him on and off the ice this year were so ridiculous.

He controls the entire game.

The Canucks are one of the best teams in the league with him on the ice. And one of the worst when he's off it.

You can count on one hand the number of players in the NHL that control the game to the same extent as he does.

Werenski should win it. But the media loves Makar.
Based on what? Certainly not statistics. Apparently the players love him too since he's a finalist for the Ted Lindsay?

Maker will win and deservedly so. 30 goals as a dman is nuts. If Quinn was healthy it could have been a closer race but he wasn't so...

Yup. These two guys will share the Norris for the next decade. They’re both just so good. Not too sure if there’s a young guy out there (Sanderson in OTT?) who will push the top two.

I guess i misunderstood your post. It was confusing that you linked werenski and makar together, as makar is the most popular player of the three
I really just wanted to say QH needs to make the playoffs regularly. All the other stuff was fluffy nonsense

If you count only 18 or 6 months younger then ya probably.

Makar should win this quite handily.

Hughes was the frontrunner before his injury, but when he went down is also when Makar took off offensively.

Werenski had a strong argument but kinda tapered off in the final month (I expect him to finish 2nd ahead of Hughes though).

Makar only has one Norris. No chance the media let that continue past this year.

is 30 goals while being outscored by MacKinnon on your own team by 24 points more impressive than 23 while leading your team in scoring?

even if it is it isn't by much

now factor in that Werenski had a minute a night less powerplay time too and had more even strength goals

I really thought Werenski had a shot halfway through the season, and wanted him to win it, but Makar is ridiculous, 30 goals is nuts and he's just been the best Dman in the NHL this year. Hughes was the only one with a legitimate shot this year if he had his health.
