2024-25 General Dallas Stars Talk

Looking at the Stars schedule in recent months since Miro went out. Dallas has 1 win vs quality competition - A team that is top 10 in points across the league...the only win was vs LA at home.

(Didn't include the Vegas game where Miro got Injured)

All other wins were against teams 11th or below. With the win vs 11th placed Oilers only coming without McDavid and Draistal not playing

Losses in that time to contending teams
At Colorado
Vs Tampa
At Winnipeg
Vs Winnipeg
At Edmonton (when McDavid+Draisatl played)
@ LA

Maybe a soft schedule inflated how average the team is without Miro.
The effects of the PP being as hot as it was cannot be understated either.

WE GOT RANTENEN!… but f*** our defense; held on too much to Heiskanen and here it is.

Playoffs are a different game and Stars are going to fall.
Given the matchup possibilities, they likely take R1 and have a regular chance in R2. Stars are still a really tough team to beat 4/7 games in a row. Would be great if they end up surviving long enough for Miro to get back without jeopardizing the recovery process.

Hey guys, doing a Team MVP series in the poll section. So far looking to be a close race between Oettinger, Duchene and Heiskanen. Would love to hear more input from Stars fans.

My account got wiped and I haven't bothered checking here since the tdl.

Was there a discussion how we are gonna ice a cap compliant team next year. Been messing around in puckpedia and it looks kinda grim to actually sign 13 forwards and 7 dmen and be cap compliant.

or are we all huffing copium and thinking duchene and benn are gonna sign league minimum out of the goodness in their heart.

Duchene is probably gone.
1 of Robertson/Marchment are gone
and Dumba has to be gone

8 Forwards
6 Defenseman
2 Goalies
-------------------
5.3 million

1 million - Bourque
1 million - Lundqvist
1 million - Benn

Blumel/Hyry at 850k..

Something like that. If they want Duchene around then you need to move Dumba.

I have faith they'll figure out how to keep Duchene. There will be mutual interest.
The best I could come up with while keeping Robertson is

this would leave about 500k in space.
-Marchment
-Dumba
so no real significant losses.
Just threw in Hyry and Hryckowian to get to 13, there's a little bit of room for cap fluctuation in those spots.
Obviously the more Duchene leaves on the table the better.
But he's got to be willing, as does Benn for it to work, without moving Robertson

yea the only way I could fit everyone is is moving marchment and dumba. Afraid other teams are gonna twist nils arm to unload those 2. I think they will have to pay to move dumba. I hope they can get a return for marchment.

the the bottom 6 looks a little rough.

Blumel, Hyry, and Hryckowian are just place holders it's just some cheap guys to fill 3 roster spots.
I don't expect Blumel to come back.

I would expect Marchment would fetch at least 1 youngish cheap guy to fill a roster spot as he should have some value. in the above scenario I traded him and Dumba for future considerations just to free up the money.
If they can get Duchene to come back for 1 more run at 3m, that would be ideal

Feel like they are going to take a step back next season as our prospect pipeline is very weak. Maybe the roster looks better the year after with more cap space.

I’d also consider moving Hintz to the wing and Mavrik at center since our lw depth will be thin.

Hintz-Duchene-Rantanen
Robertson-Johnston-Seguin
Benn-Bourque-Blumel*
4th line

Yeah the prospect pool is low key bottom five in the league at the moment and won't be getting better the next couple drafts without some lucky 2nd/later round home runs

Spot on what I believe will happen as well.

Hopefully Bourque can take a step forward next year because we’re going to need him to.
