2024-25 General Dallas Stars Talk

JRob getting moved and Hintz staying would be dumb. JRob and Hintz were both invisible against Vegas two years ago, but JRob actually showed up last year while Hintz wasn’t injured and produced nothing. I’m not saying Hintz should be moved, but it’s a weird choice if you are trying to win a cup to stick with the guy who has yet to show he has that next gear.

What about the year before tho when JRob didn't show up until the WCF and Hintz was far and away our best player

TBF I am clearly misremembering somewhat. I think what I meant was they were both invisible against Calgary- then JRob showed up against Vegas the next year. Hintz was absolutely Dallas’ best player for the first two series- and you could make an argument that they wouldn’t have gotten to the WCF without him. It’s a fair argument- but he had 2 goals and 4 assists in the 13 games against Vegas between the WCF in 2023 and 1st round in 2024- 10 games he went pointless.

4 goals in his last 21 playoff games. He was outscored by Lindell and Dadonov in last years’ playoffs.

But Hintz already has his long term contract with a reasonble number.

Robertson will ask 11+...

Something Nill will not do.

Maybe...but I'm positive Hintz got one and he was an RFA when he signed his new contract. I could be wrong.
It's age based the same way UFA status is. You can't apply trade protection until you're into what would be a guy's UFA years. This is why the first year of Hintz's extension had no protection, but it did kick in for his age 27+ seasons. Miro's trade protection starts next season.

This is the same thing you see in the Brady Tkachuk and Elias Peterson contracts. Both of those teams have until July 1st to trade them before their protection kicks in. Vancouver faces a tough decision.

Marner and Matthews for example also had no trade protections in their first years of their big extension .

Hintz would have a Conn Smythe if Stars don’t shit the bed against Vegas in 2023.
Thats a fair argument. I think theres an argument, too, that Minnesota and Seattle were “average” playoff teams, while Vegas is a team you will eventually run into if you want to go all the way. This is really an argument coming less about a need to move from Hintz, but instead recognizing that they may have a tough decision to make coming up. I also recognize that there are players that seem to always disappear in the playoffs, and the ability to show up the way Hintz has is still an insanely valuable thing for any team.

He did still have 5 points in the Vegas series, only trailing Robo at 6p.
Also Hintz was super unlucky with shooting at 5.3% during the series. Far cry from his 20.1% during the regular season and 22.5% during the first two series. Also his 19 shots during the series trailed only Robo and Wyatt, 20 & 21 respectively.

Robertson and Harley on fire, Wyatt red hot, Hintz play consistantly well..guys like Duchene, Benn and March all there to sweep up if needed one night.

Oh and Oettinger looking great.

Alot to be happy about.

Still think Rantanen comes to life as playoff starts, 10 games in, he will get going.

I havent watched last two games but from the highlights it looks like there start to be hints of chemistry from the top line. Is it real or just outside of that they are still 3 stickmans with 10 fps?

They’re racking up points but it still feels like they aren’t there yet. They aren’t exactly dominating as a line, and are just capitalizing on whatever chances they do get.
