I wonder how much of the bad PP was on Spott or how much it was on the personell just being bad, Robertson in particular (same goes for it being good now). Currently I lean towars being sceptical to how much a difference a PP coach makes in the reg. season as PP tactics aren't exactly hidden knowledge. I could see them make more of a difference in the playoffs when there is more adaptation game to game.

It’s not like these are bad players, but they were in a rut. Coaches address this by changing lines. It’s something coaches do every day around the league. But not here. They kept the top unit together for months with zero changes just waiting for it to get better.

It’s not like the pp looks significantly better either. Last night’s goal was at the end of the pp and Lindell scored it. We know he won’t be there again. The previous game was a nice tip from Hintz out of mid air on a rush play.

Maybe tomorrow when I'm bored I'll sit down and look at this recent run of PP success. I want to see how many goals were PP1 vs PP2. I have my suspicions.

Good point. My best guess is that Spott(+ probably Deboer) thinks these are the lines they think have the highest potential and will give us the best chance in the postseason if they click, hence the stubborness. If I'm right I think, for me personally, it's best to hold judgment until towards the end of the reg. season (I dont want to go into the post-season with a dysfunctional PP). However, IIRC, we didn't have the best PP last playoffs so I can't say I'm confident.

Interesting note from Friedman on his 32 thoughts podcast this morning.

He basically mentioned how with the Salary Cap going even higher, he expects some teams to start setting internal budgets. He believes the Avs are one of those teams based on this Rantanen trade.

Basically he expects there to be a tier system that will develop amongst teams where the higher revenue teams will spend up to the Cap while the lower ones will have an internal Cap.

Kinda wonder if the Stars will be one of those teams, based on Nill's Cap space worries for the next few years despite the rumors that it will continue to go up quite a bit

I love when they play it. It’s unique and a classic.

Yeah, this is something minor, so I'm not freaking out about it, but I'm not the biggest fan of how every presentation in every arena is basically becoming a carbon copy nowadays with the EA NHL series soundtrack music and singalongs of the same 3 songs. The unique things like this are just something small that keeps a bit of originality.

It reminds me of how every fast-food place is being remodeled with the same minimalist design.

I remember hearing it for the first time in 1995 at Reunion and was always curious about the song growing up. So I love it as a tradition. Not a huge deal, but I’m not a big fan of changing tradition. As long as they never change the goal horn. We have the best in the league ainec.

Yeah, I'm not gonna lose any sleep over it. It's not like I've been to a game in the past 15 years anyways. Hell, I haven't even been to a Texas Stars game in almost a decade, and I live in Austin.

I’m in Austin as well and have only been to 1 Texas Stars game and have been to 2 Dallas games so far this season. Ironically, the Texas Stars still use Darkness. So I guess I can go to those games if I want to hear it that badly lol.

If you actually plan it out in puckpedia the stars cap is a bit tight for the next couple seasons generally, even with benn and Seguin coming off the books.

A lot of that depends on what is being offered. How much of a raise does Robertson get over 7.75? What is Johnston worth? Does he get a bridge? I don’t see boruque getting too much more until he proves it. How much of a raise does Harley get? Hopefully Benn signs for much less. If it’s around 6-7 is that worth it? Is Robertson worth 10-12 or even 14 since the cap is going up.

Just a question for those who read the rules. Can a player sign for a percent of the cap? That way as cap goes up so does salary. Rantanen wanting 14 seems fair for what he provides. But Colorado did not want to pay him more than MacKinnon led to a trade.

No, contracts have to be in set dollars. They can’t be percentages.

My only annoyance here is it was one of only maybe three things unique to attending a Stars game: (1) darkness music, (2) Pantera goal song, and (3) yelling Stars during the anthem, and the anthem thing came down from Minnesota. So this move has taken away one of the two things unique to the Stars that was born here.

It makes a Stars game presentation feel more and more generic.
