Ya lol the only way I’d even consider trading jarry for gibson is if we were getting mcgroarty + 1st back with jarry.

That being said goalies do jump around, could see a world where jarry becomes a decent back up behind dostal, just overpaid.
But no reason to consider for anything less than 1st + jarry

Looking at his historical numbers, Jarry will be fine as a backup. Seems pretty low risk, particularly when the ducks have Dostal. Worst case is they buy him out or bury him in the AHL. The point is monetizing Gibson while you can move him.

In terms of the return for taking Jarry . . . you've said two different things. mcgroarty + 1st vs just a first. Seems like just a first is not enough. But mcgroarty + 1st (essentially 2 first round picks) seems like a decent haul.

One other factor is that Pittsburgh will likely be trading Pettersson as a rental to a contender and he could get a nice haul, including a first round pick. So they will have some other pieces to offer.

Devils have Hamilton and Pesce locked up, Kovacevic has played really well and might be re-signed, and they have Nemec and Casey in the AHL. They are going to have to move someone. Not sure we are a fit if he thinks he should be in the NHL, but an interesting name to think about.

He isnt a good fit stylistically at all.

The reason he isn't in the NHL is because he doesn't play defense. Not to mention he could have a similar issue here, and if it isnt him that is blocked then Luneau will be.

No matter what. I don’t see a world where lunuea isn’t playing all season with the ducks next year. Room will be made for one of verbeek favorite young ready prospects

After seeing Minty struggle defensively in year 2, Zell being sheltered with nearly 60% ES OZ start pct, and Luneau's subpar defense when he first started the season with the Ducks, hopefully Verbeek keeps him in the AHL to continue to develop his defensively play. The NCAA d-men youths in LaCombe and Helleson have proved their defense can translate to the NHL level.

Luneau's six games at the NHL level
  • Scoring: 0g + 0a = 0 pts
  • ATOI: 16:33
  • +/- rating: -5
  • OZ Start % (ES): 46.8% (9th best on team)
  • CF % (ES): 37.6% (worst on the team)
Recently, Luneau's offense has begun to pick up at the AHL level. It's possible that he's pulling a Zell where the offense masks his defensive deficiency. We need two-way D more and one less OFD if Zell is our OFD at the NHL level. The only LD that Luneau can play with next year to cover up his defensive inexperience would be LaCombe as the top pairing. That wouldn't be ideal at all.

Unfortunately, Defend the Nest stopped doing game recaps in December. I can't see pairings for games in January, when Luneau started playing again.

Year 4 of the rebuild should be gravitating into acquiring young NHL veterans to take that next step to being competitors. Although, things could change with half the season left to play and Luneau's defense continues to develop.

Luneau and Zellweger are still very young. Lacombe and Helleson have 3 and 2 years (respectively) on them. I'm confident in Luneau and Zellweger developing into mainstays in our D corps long term.
Yeah and both from the 2019 draft so they are be playing like almost in their prime years.

Who was he paired with to start the season? If it was Fowler I wouldn’t mind giving him another sample before sending him down another season. Truly can’t remember who they had him with though.
