It's probably time to trade Dumoulin to play our LHD prospects every game. Hopefully Verbeek is smart and pulls the trigger when a decent waiver pickup is available to fill our 7th spot and not play Luneau who I don't think is ready and needs more AHL playing time.

I don't think GMPV is going to sell Gibby this year. It's very unlikely that a team takes most of the cap hit, or willing to pay that premium for max retention. I only see Carolina as a possibility but historically they don't invest as much in goal. They will probably go with a cheap route like what the Avs did with Blackwood. Kotchekov would be interesting to give Dostal a decent young/cheap competitor, and they do have some good prospects to offer... and it would be cool to see Gibby play in the playoffs again.

I think I prefer EP, but he's older (not old) and more expensive, so I can see the logic of Cozens. Ultimately, I think EP is the better player so that's who I want. I don't view the contract as a problem.
Can’t argue against that. Just don’t think EP with all the rumors around him and miller being clubhouse problems is a guy PV would like. Cozens is big fast and can play mean. He has a 31 goal season under his belt, cheaper and younger

Yep, he's been solid for us but it's time to make that move. Zell can't be sitting like this, nor Minty in his place. We have four good young D who need to play, and Trouba/Gudas is enough veteran insulation now. Zell does so much for us with his skating ability in terms of gaining ground in possession, we need him playing every night. Just find a cheap capable 7th D and we have our six regulars.

I agree its time to trade Dumo if they can get something decent for him. If not, wait until the TDL.

In terms of Gibson, I think he's now at the point where he'll get more valuable with each passing day. He's playing well and the contract compares favorably to the recent goalie deals. But its probably easier to move him in the off season unless a playoff team gets desperate at the TDL.

Ok hear me out . . .

Is it crazy to think the ducks should pursue a trade of Gibson for Jarry if they can get Pittsburgh to add major +++. Here's my thinking:
  • Jarry is probably a league average backup though he'd be overpaid. I think he'd play better outside of Pittsburgh. Dostal will be affordable so the ducks can afford to overpay for a backup. Not a bad tandem though obviously Gibson >>> Jarry.
  • Jarry has one additional year of term compared to Gibson (2 more years for Gibby and 3 for Jarry). Jarry's AAV is $5.3M, but the contract is front loaded. After this year, the real dollars owed for the remaining three years of Jarry's contract is $13,675,000. For the next two years, Gibson is $6.4AAV and $12.8M total. Less than a $1M dollars in real cash difference which is offset by the fact that the ducks get an extra year. Or stated differently, the ducks are getting Jarry for one year at league minimum (or they can move on if he's still bad).
  • Gibby is from Pittsburgh and presumably he'd be on board.
  • Pittsburgh seems desperate and hopefully they would offer a ton.
Don't get me wrong, I'm only doing this if Pittsburgh adds premium assets. But I think they might . . .

The issue is they really don’t have premium assets. Pickering? McGroarty? Brunicke? I guess a 1st? Not much to choose from.

And the Penguins giving up those assets is only gonna make the Penguins eventual rebuild much more painful even if they end up with Martone + McKenna.

I'll be the first to admit I know nothing about their prospect pipeline. I think they're in denial trying to squeeze out another year or two of the Crosby/Malkin years. Reminds me of the ducks a few years back.

I had this thought yesterday as well; I just didn't want to say it lol. Would have to be predicated on a couple items IMO. Ideally a belief that Jarry should at least bounce back to being a decent backup goalie, potentially tandem. Even then, he has been so bad I still think it is fair for the starting point to be PITs 2025 1st (top 8 protected), McGroarty, +. Especially considering McGroarty hasn't been lighting it up in the A.

Trading the future doesn't seem to be the way Pittsburgh is heading right now. They did it to get Karlsson but I think that was their final roll of the dice. They aren't going to give up any of the very few premium assets they have left to get a 31 year-old goalie IMO.

It's not the craziest suggestion but I'm not in favor. At some point during that contract, we'll have to start paying Dostal big boy money. I really don't want $11M+ on the books for our goaltending unless the tandem is as strong as what we have now.

There is nothing they would be willing to give that will make it worth it to downgrade in the level of player and a worse contract (Ill take 1 mil more for only 2 years any day).

I seriously doubt they are trading their 1st or McGroarty.

Ya lol the only way I’d even consider trading jarry for gibson is if we were getting mcgroarty + 1st back with jarry.

That being said goalies do jump around, could see a world where jarry becomes a decent back up behind dostal, just overpaid.
But no reason to consider for anything less than 1st + jarry

I wonder what the cap penalty will be when they send him down, once he clears waivers in the next hour. They are likely better off just burying him for the next couple years.
