2024-25 EPL Season

B-b-b-but the refs and the injuries

This is why they are 2nd

It's almost like those 16 points dropped from winning positions include:
  • Brighton - Rice red card
  • Man City - Trossard red card
  • Brighton - Saliba penalty conceded for clash of heads in the box
  • Everton - MLS penalty that was neither a foul nor in the penalty area
So yes, you've essentially quoted a stat that shows that Arsenal have dropped double the points from winning positions this year due to poor refereeing.

You can’t blame the refs for not being able to see games out. Dropping points from winning positions is not a ref problem. That’s rot.

And these weren’t even bad calls. Rice and Trossard did not get straight red cards. They were sent off for second yellows. For doing yellow card worthy offenses. Everton one, was soft but by the rule was correctly not overturned. Saliba PK was a PK.

Speaking of Everton, Arsenal (and Brighton) have more draws than everyone but Everton. To busy blaming the refs can’t look in the mirror and realize yall can’t hold a league and yall are not a great open play team. Arsenal are not where they are because of the refs. It’s because they haven’t been at PL title pace. Usually PL champ is averaging more than 2 points per fixture. Arsenal have not been at that mark the majority of the season and still aren’t. They simply have just not been good enough

Officials in the EPL is quite a close group and they tend to stand for each others. They do not like manager that put blame on them and they will double down on managers that are whiny on the field and/or to the media.

Arsenal are a good team with great players but with very poor discipline. The issue at least from what I have seen is that Arteta is not well liked by the officials and he is a bit of an a****** to be fair (he is not the first nor will be the last) but it certainly has an impact on decisions. BTW samething applied to Klopp, all referees did not like his attitudes and it impacted in a lot of key decisions over the years when he was managing LFC.

I am not surprised that the first year Klopp is out, Liverpool are starting to get more decisions their way.

I think if Arteta is out and they bring in a different manager you would start to see Arsenal get more favorable calls.

That being said, solely blaming the officials or injuries is not fully accurate. Arsenal have not played well this year and they have lacked finishing. They do not deserve or played as a title contender level this year, they have the talent to win it all but they will require more introspection and stop only blaming outside factors.

Liverpool fans are so obsessed with how Arsenal fans feel... You guys can't even enjoy your title win without trying to justify it for some reason.

Arsenal haven't performed as well as last season, and there's no one single reason for it. Our overall performance level hasn't been as good, we've had significant injuries, and the refs have taken points away from us at times.

I can't imagine being so deluded to think that posting that stat "proves" the injuries and refs had nothing to do with Arsenal finishing behind Liverpool when the broader context is that we've dropped points from winning positions due to reffing decisions. It's nearly as deluded as thinking the Rice sending off was deserved for "typical Arsenal time wasting" when the Brighton player really just tried to kick at Rice while "attempting to take a quick free kick" with a rolling ball (not legal). But am I surprised? No, because we're talking about someone who thinks Joe Gomez injury was more significant than Arsenal losing Saka for 3 months.

If any one of those calls had happened to Liverpool, you would have known which team the husband of the first girlfriend of the assistant VAR cheered for and used that as evidence of a conspiracy.

Like the Arsenal fans did to Jarred Gillett?
