Prospect Info: 2024-25 Ducks Prospects

Amateurish... they cant even pick up the phone to call people once a month to check in?

Our prospects are the future of the team. They should be regularly checking in with ALL OF THEM to see how they are developing and provide some feedback on what they need to do. We are in a highly competitive multi billion dollar industry with a singular goal to win a cup. We should be doing everything possible to achieve that goal.

So to get this straight, we need our scouts, or some player development people to be checking in regularly in person or via phone, to every player we have rights to in the ECHL / AHL / NHL / every league across the pond / OHL / WHL / QMJHL / College / etc.

So first, we need to create a new division. Hire what we call the creative team director of the prospect reach out initiate.

Then we need to have that person we will call him, CTD, then we we CTD to form a committee on how we as an organization define the term prospect. Does Leo count ? Or do we not need to reach out to him anymore since he’s in the NHL ? What age is a prospect no longer a prospect? What stats make it a prospect not worth investing more resources into ? Do we couldn’t ever roster player / draft pick as one until they die ?

Okay CTD’s committee has set organization rules for what a prospect is considered. What next ? Okay CTD has to hire communications liaison to the prospects, his name will be Carl. Carl then has to make sure we have mental health / player development / people afflicted with the Ducks organization who speak the languages of our prospects. You speak Russian, well we need to hire the best Russian speaking sports psychologist out there, the best Russian speaking sports physical trainer. We also then need to hire the best Russian to English translator in the world as well, in order to make sure nothing is lost in translation.


Like I understand frustration no one called the kid from our org, does that mean his agent never got a call? Basically of all the things to get up in arms of management about, you choose 1, 25 year old Russian kid having a breakout year. I hope he comes over and is a good player for us, but this is the hill you want to die on ?

Galimov doesn't speak English so no it's not as simple as picking up a phone and calling once a month to check in. We also don't know the whole story, like maybe they were checking in with his agent or something. Athletes aren't in charge of their own lives... I really wouldn't overreact to this.


Yeah as @JAHV said, Murray didn't seem to like drafting Russian players.

My batshit crazy, tinfoil-hat theory is that Samueli owning Broadcom and making semiconductors that are essential to US tech makes drafting Russian players more complicated.

In our current environment, I think we need to recalibrate what qualifies as "batshit crazy."

we send scouts to moosejaw/chicoutimi / the Canadian hinterland/ etc. to watch players who will never play or be affiliated with the team I really dont see what’s so hard about calling every ducks prospect 3 or 4 times a season to check in lol

Technicality here, but Samueli doesn’t “own” Broadcom. He’s the largest individual shareholder of the company (owns about 1.5% of their stock worth about $20 billion). He definitely founded the company obviously and is Director of the Board I believe. He’s not the controlling shareholder like Mark Zuckerberg is of META for example though - who also has insane voting/veto rights

The company is a behemoth that got acquired by a Singaporean company called Avago technologies. That’s why Broadcom’s stock ticker is AVGO

Regardless, I highly highly doubt that’s why we haven’t drafted Russians very often

I wasn’t disagreeing with the premise of reaching out to prospects. Just find it weird that this is so upsetting to people. Plus with Russians kinda sounding pissed off all the time, people just assume we pissed this guy off. Lost in translation is a real thing.

Did we call his agent ? No ? Okay why ?
Did we call his agent ? Yes ? Okay what happened after?

Like we are just jumping because he said he didn’t hear anything. Well there was a leadership change and a total tear down of an organization to properly rebuild, probably more pressing needs than a 22 year old prospect (who was struggling) in Russian (who just entered into a war with their neighbor) and are being kicked out of all international tournaments.

Just like I said, weird hill to die on.

Are fans getting paid to be invested in prospects like management is? Strange comparison. We pay to be entertained.

This guy corporates. A bit related, I used to work with the former CFO at Broadcom for about a year. I also agree that's the reason the Ducks don't draft Russians. Combo of BPA at spot and also being risk averse with the geopolitical landscape.
