Is today some sort of American holiday? The game was in Erie, Pennsylvania.

Ah I see now on twitter it was just a school day game where they pack the stands with kids.

Erie is in Pennsylvania??? I had no idea.

Until just now I didn't realize there were three US teams in the OHL.

Until just now I didn't realize there were three US teams in the OHL.

Lots in the WHL as well. Everett, Portland, Seattle, Spokane, Tri City and Wenatchee, nine total US teams in the CHL. Five in the state of Washington, two in Michigan, one each in Oregon and Pennsylvania. Will very likely see some USHL teams joining now that their players are jumping to the CHL anyway with the new NCAA eligibility rules.

Galimov is second in the KHL in goals and fifth in points. Still no idea what he is.

Josh leivo has 40 goals over there to lead the league and his career high in goals in the NHL is 10.
What's crazy is that Leivo has 40 goals in 46 GP this year. Last year the top scorer had 44 in 64 GP.

Leivo is 8 goals behind the KHL goalscoring record of 48G in 60GP. Kaprizov had 33 in his best year lol

the recent success story that has a similar career trajectory is Kuzmenko who was like 27 when he came to the NHL. Similar production and late bloom from the two of them. granted Kuzmenko had a bit more track record of scoring than Galimov.

I think part of why Galimov had such low production is his team has had a lot of star power in recent years. I wonder if that hampered him a bit. There definitely is some upside to him just hard to place how much weight to put in it. the safe bet is not much and hoe for a pleasant surprise.

Dan Sexton was once one of the best KHL scorers too. He was top 10 in KHL points twice during his time there.

I do wonder if a Russian-born player having success in Russia would come over just to play in the AHL.
Not gonna happen, realistically. Particularly in Galimov‘s case, his next KHL contract would be a first big one. If we can sign him, he’s got to have a clear vision of NHL hockey ahead of him. Some AHL-time would probably be fine, but if the path to the NHL isn’t clear, he’s going to go back, sign the biggest contract of his career and be fine.

That's true, I don't know that the pay in the KHL is, but a 1 way contract to play in SD if he doesn't earn a spot if they tell him it's to acclimate to NA ice? I wouldn't want to just hand him a spot if he's going to be overwhelmed by NHL competition.

What are the chances that Galimov ever plays a game for the Ducks?

If he can get a similar contract in the KHL and is already comfortable living and playing there, I don't really see why he would want to risk coming to a dumpster fire like Anaheim when he's finally having some success.

There's no way he comes here on an AHL contract.

The question isn't whether he will get NHL games, it's whether he will sign a contract with us at all. If he signs, the odds of him playing NHL games is a near certainty.

As to why he would come over, it's because the NHL is the top professional hockey league in the world and he is a professional hockey player. It's pretty rare for a professional athlete to not have aspirations of playing in the best league of his chosen sport.

Also as a native Russian, if things don't work out here it would probably significantly easier for him vs other players to just go back to Russia.
