🔥 En Fuego Club 🔥
  • C Blais
  • RW Sennecke (Guess getting snubbed by team Canada literally fired Sennecke up!)

🏅 WJC-20 Medal Club 🏅
  • RD Port, Bronze
  • C Terrance, Gold

Wheeler's take on Duck prospects at the WJC

Carey Terrance (F, Anaheim Ducks): Speed and transition game noticeable. Tracking pucks and applying pressure/winning body positioning on the forecheck. That’s his game.

Vojtech Port (D, Anaheim Ducks): I didn’t notice him a lot but he seemed to be driving possession/play nicely when he was on the ice. Stats and underlying numbers look good and he and Fibigr gave the Czechs one of the better third pairings in the tournament.

🌠 The Honor Roll Club 🌠
  • RW Burnevik
  • RW Callow

🏅 Medal Club 🏅
  • RW Burnevik
Wheeler's take on Burnevik at the WJC:

Austin Burnevik (F, Anaheim Ducks): He showed some feel off his backhand. Skating is a limiter. Not much of a factor overall.

RD Will Francis has had cancer return. Wishing him the best in recovery!

🔥 En Fuego Club 🔥
  • C Pettersson in HockeyAllsvenskan

Notes
  • No idea where Pettersson is playing because he was in three different leagues in this 4-week span.
  • G Clara was sent down to the J20 club and he's having a rough go.
Wheeler on Duck prospects at the WJC:

Darels Uljanskis (F, Anaheim Ducks): One of the last picks of last year’s draft. I thought he struggled to defend the speed of the top players in the tournament, getting caught on his heels and turned at times. He was fine but I don’t view him as an NHL prospect.

🌠 Honor Roll Club 🌠
  • RW Mysak
Honorable mentions: RW Pastujov, RD Luneau, RW Colangelo

Notes: There is just too many negatives in that plus/minus category. Not enough high end veterans to help out the roster.

Here's a diatribe from Defend the Nest about the team's roster:

Built To Win? Or Built To Develop?
As we watch another Gulls season go down the drain my broken record speech of “it will get better next year, look at the talent coming in” is wearing thin – let’s just say even I am sick of it. Why don’t the Ducks ever bring back players that have proved to be good pieces for their farm team and organizational depth? Let’s go down the list of the leading scorers in the AHL.
5th (tied) in scoring: Andrew Poturalski – 12 goals, 18 assists and 30 points in 28 games.
10th in scoring: Rocco Grimaldi – 7 goals, 21 assists and 28 points in 25 games.
12th in scoring: Glenn Gawdin – 9 goals, 18 assists and 27 points in 26 games.
13th in scoring: BO Groulx – 9 goals, 18 assists and 27 points in 26 games.
28th in scoring and second among defenders: Trevor Carrick – 5 goals, 19 assists and 24 points in 26 games.
36th in scoring: Andrew Agozzino – 9 goals, 14 assists and 23 points in 25 games.
It is so frustrating to see the constant revolving door of talent coming in and then leaving again while the results each season don’t change.
I get that you need to keep spots available for prospects to get ice and thus develop but at the same time – and I mean this in the nicest way – Rodwin Dionicio should probably be in the ECHL this season. He had some fun moments in this game but his foot speed is not quite up to par and he appears to tire easily in his own zone. Don’t get me wrong – he can be fun to watch with the kind of hits he throws and soft hands in close but his defensive game needs a lot of work.

G Clara was sent down to the J20 club and he's having a rough go.
They're sending Clara down there to play some games when the big boys are off for a couple of days. He's joined the SHL team as the backup in tonight's game. Max Lagacé, their top goalie, has been playing really well lately.

Färjestad won 5-4 vs Malmö last night. A top four d-man was activated off IR , so Solberg was back on the 3rd pairing. His game stats: 1 assist, 1 SOG, -1, 2 hits, 12:52 TOI.

He also face washed a guy pretty good after a high stick, but the refs decided not to call anything. I liked that, let them play.

Likely that his time in the ECHL better prepared him for another shot at the AHL and gave him some confidence in his offense. I can think of a couple of Gulls who might benefit similarly.

I don’t think we should look at the ECHL as a negative for prospects. I think we should look at it more as they need more time to cook or develop while getting quality minutes.

Agreed on all points.

Happy to see him showing a little more in the AHL, hoping he can be a bit of a surprise in our system.

I dunno about that. Remember when we had F Blake McLaughlin sent down to the ECHL for two seasons? He tore up the ECHL, but couldn't transfer it to the AHL. Same story this year with a different org for McLaughlin. Our current version of McLaughlin is Jaxsen Weibe.

The ECHL might be good in developing goalies. Or maybe Suchanek was the exception.

Pasta was a 0.50 ppg player last year for the Gulls and was oft injured. Pasta only played in 46 AHL games last year. For perspective, Sidorov has played 32 out of 33 Gull games. Maybe Pasta was sent down to the ECHL due to personality problems. He was called up because of injuries and callups that the Gulls needed goal scoring when Harkins and Colangelo were in the NHL.

What I like about Pasta this season is he's able to create points outside of playing wing on the Gaucher-Caulfield line. Sidorov has benefited from being on the Gaucher-Caulfield line that Defend the Nest noted that he wanted to see Sidorov produce away from the Gaucher-Caulfield line.

With the 4 assist night, two primary apples, Pasta has jumped to third on the team in ppg rate with 0.84. In 17 games, Pasta has scored 7g and 9a = 16 pts.

The Gens got a big addition in Flyers pick Noah Powell from Ohio State. He's going to debut tonight on a line with Ritchie and Sennecke
