I'd rather let Solberg marinate longer in the SHL to instill proper habits that won't be dissuaded once he's on NA ice. Like you mentioned, Solberg is an unpolished player and playing better in recent times does not equate to being an established player. Don't confuse a spit-&-shine with a polished product. I do not trust our development coaches at both the AHL and NHL levels. I want Solberg to be a top-4, two-way defender; not a 3rd pairing hitter that cannot control his emotions. Solberg has shown offensive skills in flashes, but also at the lower levels in Norway. That offense has been suppressed due to being promoted to the men's club at age 16.

Our youth RD Helleson has been languishing in the AHL for the past three seasons and hasn't looked good. At the NHL level, he was told to simplify his game and it has been a big improvement. Despite the big improvement, he's been healthy scratched for long periods of time such as not playing for seven consecutive games.

The Ducks could use some "polished" players instead of underdeveloped ones.

I like how Färjestad's coach is working with Solberg. He really believes in him, once he was able to calm him down a bit. So I guess another year in the SHL wouldn't be a bad thing either.

But it depends on what Solberg wants, and what the Ducks want. Do they want a grinder and a physical 2nd-3rd pairing guy, or will they focus more on skills? If it's the first, that's what I think, he shouldn't stay in the SHL for too long.
