Maxim Massé, RW, Chicoutimi Saguenéens (Anaheim Ducks)

Despite earning the Mike Bossy trophy in his draft year last season, Maxim Massé still struggled to establish his skills and cement himself as a top-50 NHL prospect. He ended up at 54th on our board, and the Anaheim Ducks picked him up at 66th.

He had a tall task ahead of him heading into his draft-plus-one — to cement himself as a leader on a young team and take charge. And so far, that mission is looking to be a major success.

A high-end shooter with strong board-battle and net-front mechanics, Massé has fully leaned into his combination of aggression and power down low to retrieve and protect pucks, drive inside contact and push to the net. Those tools — the goal-scoring and physical mechanics — are starting to look less like by-default adaptations to his lack of pure foot speed, and more like foundational staples of his game.

With six goals and three assists in four games — and points in all of them — Massé’s offensive takeover has been immediate. But the way his strengths evolved from byproducts of his weaknesses to true core elements of what makes him special has been a treat to watch.

Massé suffered an ankle injury on Thursday and he will miss several weeks.

Burnevik has another goal today. What a start for the kid.

Oshawa down 2-0 early and clearly frustrated.

Procyszyn has another goal today as well, his 6th.
Burnevik has a hell of a release on him based on his highlights so far.

Procyszyn developing some offence too, only 9 goals less then all of last season now. Didn't realise he's quite a late birthday too.

Burnevik has added two assists, now 1+2. Procyszyn now 1+1.
5 points in your first 3 NCAA games.....not too bad.

Just brought up his draft profile from EP again to have another read, they really rave about his shooting and passing ability (along with hockey IQ) and grade them at NHL level, but his skating needs to improve a fair bit they think.

On his skating: "The lack of lower-body flexion limits his speed and widens his turning radius; he doesn’t have many race-winning, puck-rushing, or puck-protection skills as a result. In faster-moving USHL games, he falls behind and spends most of his minutes chasing.".

Also won 19/29 faceoffs.

I think both? The team has not practiced much together and sennecke did not have a training camp. I would expect it to take awhile for him to get going.
57/103 (54.8%) for the season so far.

Oshawa getting outshot 35-19 tonight (been outshot 146 v 169 prior to tonight), so a pretty terrible start for them.

Also agree that it will take Sennecke a while to get going, very rarely do players with a compromised training camp start the season well. First 3+ weeks are just getting up to speed.
