I think it's fair to say there are really only 2 candidates.. maybe Blackwood could have put himself in the convo had he joined the avalanche sooner.

Who is the regular season MVP between MacKinnon, a possible hart finalist and Art Ross winner , or Makar, a likely Norris winner?

MacKinnon currently has a 25 point lead over Makar but surprisingly only a 2 goal lead over him!

Makar averages 3 more minutes of ice time than Mackinnon.

Is Mackinnon's superior production enough to offset Makar's all around play?

I voted Makar but honestly I think he and Nate cancel each other out. I truly think the WOODS in nets are the MVP because as great as Cale and Nate are, even when they had Ranto, they could not outscore bad goaltending often enough. I saw them as the regular season version of the 2012 Penguins playoff team.

I voted MacKinnon. But - flip a coin between him and Makar.

They are both legitimately having Hart worthy seasons. i don't think either of them win though - but fantastic seasons.

I'm kind of surprised people are getting this right. A lot of people saying McKinnon's the MVP of the league, when he's not the best player on his team.

It's Makar, a forward with only a "25 point lead" over his defensive counterpart isn't close to enough. Add in that Makar plays a harder position and only has 2 less goals.

Feels like no one was saying Makar until he scored 30, and suddenly there’s this push from those who who always seemed to scoff at MacKinnon’s win last year. Makar’s been better since the 4 Nations, but the team has also been much better after they started getting healthy and the team picked some guys up. MacKinnon was more important early when they needed him more, and was the better player for a larger portion of the season imo.

I would say it feels like 60/40 to 40/60 for makar/mack at any given time in the past few years.

Mackinnon was playing out of his mind for a lot of last season and early this season. Makar's been pretty consistently exceptional this season.

I am not sure if Mackinnon or the Avs at this point are sort of saving their punches and experimenting at this point given their lack of agency for the remainder of the season with regards to the playoff picture, but it doesn't feel as though Mackinnon is giving it his 110% right now (and I am ok with that).

If you ask me right now, or this season as a whole, I guess I would say Makar. Any given night though, either one could be the "bus driver". Hoping it works out successfully for the playoffs.

The percentage of votes is probably ranking the top three in the right order, by the right amount.

Makar

9th in league scoring
30 goals
Plays all situation and against top lines

Mack has a 25 point lead and has scored 2 more goals. I don't think that's enough when Makar is playing a really solid all-around game and still torching the scoring charts as a Dman.

MacKinnon quite clearly for me. If he wasn't also the MVP of the Four Nations, and got to skip that fairly intense tournament, he would've likely won the Hart and Art Ross trophies as well.

Makar, MacKinnon too inconsistent, started playing too individualistically again after an amazing start where you thought his mind finally caught up to his hands and feet

(strangely this happened right around the time Nuke got back on the team...)
