Hmm. Other than from Whitney, who’s a bitch that whines about everything, I don’t remember hearing this much shit about prior coaches from former players.

Somebody on Reddit pointed out that Carlyle was a known hard-ass and Silf apparently didn't have any issues with him, maybe because Randy had the NHL bonafides to back it up

Maybe also Carlyle being a hard-ass is quite different than Cronin’s methods

It’s going to take respected veterans like Silfverberg coming out and saying stuff like that to get him fired.

At this point the Lybuschkin comments aren’t an isolated incident.

Whether it’s fair or not, it seems like part of the issue between players and Cronin is the fact that he hasn’t had any success to back up his attitude, so the players don’t really respect him.

Purely hypothetical, but if Cronin and Carlyle were to treat players exactly the same and preach the same exact things, players would likely say they prefer Carlyle just because he’s been around a long time and had success, so they believe in him more (even though the message is identical). Maybe that isn’t fair to Cronin (in this hypothetical scenario), but it’s an actual sticking point that needs to be overcome, and I just don’t think it’s possible anymore.

I just hope there aren’t any panic trades before a new coach takes over.

I’m not sure if this actually IS a serious question (seems too obvious of an answer to be one honestly) but I’ll respond anyway:

1) the former player that is making these comments isn’t some random guy like Devin Shore or Matthew Lombardi that was here for half a season and then never heard from again. We’re talking about one of the longer tenured ducks in franchise history that spoke highly of former teammates/coaches at all times and was respected by everyone it seemed

2) this is now a repeat occurrence when coupled with the Lybushkin comments from this offseason. All questioning Cronin’s methods

3) something that happened last year isn’t ancient history. It could have been less than a calendar year ago. Acting like it’s completely irrelevant because it was last season is bizzare.

Lots of speculation here that Carlyle and Cronin's methods were the same b/c both are deemed as hardnosed coaches.

Lyubushkin and Silf identified specific instances of Cronin doing things that no other coaches have done before at the NHL level. For Silf's instance, Cronin did this in-game instead of it being done behind closed doors. Which is why Silf countered that example with Getz calling a player meeting if the team was on a 3-game losing streak. When your assistant Captain believes you've crossed the line, then that is definitely not a great thing... especially when you also made him lose the spark to play hockey.

Carlyle's antiquated style of coach didn't mesh with the influx of youths in his second runaround and Carlyle got canned mid-season. TBF, Carlyle lost older veterans to injury in F Eaves, C Kelser, and RW Perry in a two-year span and was forced to coach a lot of youths because of those vet injuries.

Cronin let his lips loose when he admitted this past summer he went overboard on LaCombe to where LaCombe had to seek help over the summer to overcome those mental issues spurred by Cronin.

The comments on the receptiveness mostly seem to focus on training camp and the way drills were handled. But that's not what Silfverberg's quote was about.

The only time the Ducks went down 5-0 at Edmonton last season was March 30th, nearly the end of the season. (Incidentally, it falls well within that last 20-game stretch where Cronin says he stepped back to see what the players would do while left to their own devices, which puts a whole new spin on the fact that he was lighting into the team in that manner.) So this indicates either he still didn't have veteran buy-in after a whole season, or there are more issues than Knoll is admitting/aware of.

I also think it's at least potentially interesting that 2/3 of the guys currently wearing letters are not listed as guys who immediately bought in, and one of them has now twice talked to the media about the team not playing connected.

it amazes me how cronin is apparently "big into analytics" but when faced with a simple question about how his team performed, his only response is "i don't know"

i wish we could watch his interview and see exactly how he duped the entire org into thinking he was the correct choice

If all of this were happening to the coach of Toronto or Edmonton or New York, would there be changes in how Verbeek is approaching this? IMO, yes. The pressure from the media would have forced his hand already. I can't imagine a coach in Toronto surviving these type of comments.

If team was winning or young players were improving, these off the ice quirks/friction/ex-player reports wouldn't be a thing. But when the on-ice product is lacking, everything else comes into play. If Cronin is going to be a stubborn red ass, the Ducks better begin looking like a real hockey team. BTW, if all the players loved the coach but the team played like ass, I'd think the same thing.

First time I read this I read it as "Cronin let his hips loose" and I was deeply disturbed.
