And just to be clear, as this incident (if true) relates to Cronin as the current Ducks coach, it shouldn't be an automatic disqualifier. It's not a great look for sure. It certainly doesn't make me feel good about him being the leader of my favorite hockey team. But it was 20 years ago. It's very possible that he's grown and matured since then and no longer treats players that way. There is plenty of rumor that he's still hard to play for, but you can be firm and gruff and hold players accountable in ways they don't like while also not delving into personal attacks and vowing retribution.

Ultimately, though, this is one more piece of evidence that he's probably not the type or quality of coach this team needs. It's not strong evidence, but it's part of the growing pile.
But if he is lying NOW, about him not remembering anything, that could be a sign of a seriously crossing the line now (pushing things under the rug, saying the famous "i dont know"). Cronin said he'd never do that. SC already got multiple reports about similar stuff from him. That's serious, imo

Either way, this long list of suspitious stuff about Cronin, as I said, implies that Pat is questionable too, imo.

My theory is that Yandle led Cronin on, Cronin held off giving an offer to a good player that he then missed out on after Yandle stood him up, and Cronin called him to say that karma would result in Yandle spending the best part of his career wandering in the desert.

Yandle never forgave Cronin for his witch’s curse.

I do agree that if you spend an entire day on a recruiting visit it would be tough for a 17 year old to not start agreeing with the sales job before thinking it through.

Maybe I’m not in touch with things, but would a parent just send off their kid by himself to discuss scholarships. All scholarships are not the same and I wouldn’t let my 17 year old commit without discussing it with me first.

I don’t know what happens if there is no scholarship involved. I thought that was a walk-on. But if a school is not offering any assistance, I’m not sure how much can be counted if a kid agrees to attend without an adult being there.

There seems to be a big piece missing from this.

Cronin did take it hard on LaCombe last year, which Cronin did admit to doing. LaCombe had to go through some mental exercises to improve his psyche over the summer such as taking up boxing.

One other piece on Yandle. Keith’s brother played for UNH and Keith had committed to UNH to play with him.

Whether Wikipedia is correct or not, it stated Keith Yandle was denied admittance to UNH due to academics.

This doesn’t doesn’t change whether a Cronin phone call happened, but Yandle didn’t change his mind and decommit from UNH as he says. Ultimately he never attended college.

John

Edit added: It may very well had been a situation where Yandle painted a picture of changing his mind going to UNH and Cronin found out the next day that wasn’t true and academically he couldn’t attend Northeastern either.

And Cronin called Yandle and the conversation may not have been exactly as Yandle presented it, but I’m guessing it wasn’t pleasant. But this is all conjecture.
