Wishcasting that Verbeek wants to establish a defensive mindset first, then take the shackles off of the skill guys. Not confident in that wish. Also think the GA/G has been largely driven by excellent goaltending.
Ducks are last in the league in shots against/game at 34.1, so this seems like a fair assumption.

Last season was 32.5.

And two days ago or whatever it was, people on this thread were talking about Whitney and the boys as if, it was evidence, it wouldn’t hold up in court, but probably true…. It was confirmation bias, and knoll’s says some barely even positive remarks about Cronin ….. in response to the splitting chicklets podcast most likely. And you immediately point out how it’s in his professional interest to instead of doing his job and reporting the facts, it is to paint the coach in a positive manner in order to gain access. Which then in theory turns all media people into (which most are) untrustworthy mouthpieces for some ulterior motive.

I really don’t even care all that much, just pointing out the logical fallacy in your statement about why knoll’s should be taken with a grain of salt, while you didn’t do the same for the VERY negative story said by guys, of whom ZERO said they had firsthand insider knowledge…. (Even though you said you believed it was said from players presently in the locker room, and current). Really like I said I don’t really care even if these 8 paragraphs say differently….. just wanted to let you know I think you used confirmation bias to believe what you wanted and poke holes in something I could best describe as not totally negative.

Do you really think Chiclets is going to use a story about the Ducks to generate clicks? Nobody gives a shit about the Ducks

Yeah... it looks ugly. The median SA/game = 28.9. The Ducks have allowed 29 SA/game 15 out of 18 games.

Record: 8-8-2 (18 pts), 0.500 Pts %
GF/game = 2.56 goals for
GA/game = 3.00 goals allowed
GD/game = -0.44 goals
SA/game = 34.1 shots against

SA/game in the first 18 games last year was 32.7 shots against per game. Here is the chart for the first 18 games. We allowed over 40 Shots Against once in the first 18 games.

Record: 9-9-0 (18 pts), 0.500 Pts %
GF/game = 2.83 goals for
GA/game = 3.11 goals allowed
GD/game = -0.28 goals
SA/game = 32.7 shots against

We're scoring less and allowing more shots this year than last year. Yep, we're relying a lot on our netminders for points.

Do you have stats for “high danger shots” or whatever the metric is called?

I'm certain we won't get a response either way, but if the Chiclets rumors are false or outdated then I wish Pat would at least acknowledge and shoot them down.

I'm also pretty certain we won't get Montgomery, which is a shame because I think he could be a great fit. His experience as a successful college coach seems especially apt considering how many of our most important players are college-aged or near it.
The players should be the ones shooting them down if they aren't true, and so far I haven't seen that

High Danger shot metrics can be found on both Natural Stat Trick and Hockey-Reference.

For Natural Stat Trick, in the team "season stats", just scroll to the left right to find HDCF (high danger chances for), HDCA (chances against), etc...

For Hockey-Reference, you should be on the summary page and scroll down to "Team Analytics 5-on-5", under the "Scoring Chances" tab, and you'll find the HD metrics.

I wouldn't have last year's HD stats at after 18 games b/c I didn't record them on excel.

edit: scroll to the right. apparently i'm dyslexic if i don't say righty tighty, lefty loosey. :D

The biggest thing missing on this team is joy.

Maybe that's a function of not winning many games. Maybe its that the coach and GM are unrelenting hard-asses. Maybe its because they haven't been to the postseason in forever. Whatever the cause, they just don't seem like they're having any fun.

When Teemu was on the ice, you could sense that the team was enjoying itself. The game came easy and guys would be smiling on the bench, grinning like kids during postgame interviews with Frenchy. But those days just keep getting smaller and smaller in the rearview mirror.

IMO, joy starts at the top. I can't wait for us to get out from under the dark PV/Cronin cloud that has planted itself over this organization. Growth is difficult but it doesn't have to be miserable.

Since it appears that we are stuck with Cronin for the duration of the season, my hope is that we get a good coach to replace him and the team really takes off.

It is like having a horrible boss and when they are finally replaced with a good boss everyone is just so happy.

Of course if the next boss is just as bad every left just bails.

The Athletic's NHL team power rankings for today, Nov 22nd:

25. Anaheim Ducks, 8-8-2

Last week: 30
Sean’s ranking: 26
Dom’s ranking: 24
Sean grade: C-
Dom grade: B-
Credit where credit is due, the Ducks are playing .500 hockey right now which is way better than many could’ve expected. Credit Lukas Dostal’s heroics and a three-game winning streak for that one.
But man does this team still look rough on a nightly basis. We’ll give them a pass because a win is a win, but even a record well above expectations isn’t enough for high marks when the Ducks are still getting caved in and the young core has seemingly regressed.

Without top goaltending, we're FUBAR.
