Yeah saw that tweet. Its good, small sample with a good team. Was also fired by the Stars for Unprofessional behavior tho.

We do need a "Positiv coach", which he seems to be.

Yeah it was drinking related, but I dont remember a ton of details outside of just frinking to the point of blackouts. I dont think it was Murray type where he was abusive to staff. Devils in the details. If it was a Murray-esque situation I could see us passing on him for that alone.

Didn’t Pat tell Cronin that he needs to pump the brakes a bit after last year? Cronin said he would adjust his approach but seems like he hasn’t. Coaches rarely reinvent themselves much less over the course of 1 summer.
Biz’s anecdotes from the podcast were from before Pat told Cronin that, I believe. So it is possible he has adjusted from what Biz was referring to.

But again, not sure when Whit’s source(s) told him that they were unhappy with Cronin. Might be recent or might be from the same time as Biz.

To be fair I think the podcast stuff might have been gleaned from exit interviews during the Summer and not necessarily have anything to do with recent player discussions, but there's no way to be sure unless someone clarifies.

This might just be old news resurfacing since there's been other negative buzz around Cronin and he's an easy target.

Yeah i mean there's no way to know for sure, definitely wouldn't be great evidence at a trial. But i got the sense that Whitney was referring to how things were going at present. I guess we'll see but i really doubt Cronin has undergone that sort of transformation. Still doubt he goes anywhere anytime soon given how we've been playing better of late.

Totally possible.

I've pretty much soured on Cronin, but I will say one last thing - the problem of a weekly podcast (much like a 24/7 news cycle) is that you have to find something to talk about every week, even when nothing's happening.

It could honestly be as simple as Lyubushkin said bad things about Cronin --> Lyubushkin played Cronin last night --> It's topical.

I believe every word they said. Here's why:

Have you seen Cutter's postgame interviews the last two games? He scored his first two goals and they won, but he was flat and downtrodden. Why? Maybe because he was one of the most prolific scorers in college this decade and he's stuck on the fourth line.

Hardass only works when the system is successful. And even then, it’s got a pretty limited shelf life.
Yeah, exactly. The only coaches that can really pull the "Tortorella approach" have a long track record of success.

When your systems aren't working or aren't clear, your on ice performance is awful, everyone is demoralized, and the coach is on your ass in practice everyday making you do bag skates, things are going to get old really quickly.

Maybe Verbeek thought the drill sergeant approach would help the kids gain some discipline, but when they're around a bunch of vets in the locker room that aren't buying in that is going to rub off on the rest of the team.

We need a coach that brings out the love for the game, and gives positive reinforcement. The tough love coach was the choice a couple of seasons ago when we had alot of vets not performing. These players are all so young. They need to be taught.

Imagine being good enough at something that after being fired, dozens of Internet users are clamoring for you to be hired.

Must be a bittersweet feeling.
same thing happened with boudreau. he wasn't even unemployed for a few days before the ducks hired him

I actually think he’s been playing his best since he was demoted. He honestly meshes well with Lundy/Leason/Johnston.

dumping Cronin for Monty would be huge for this franchise. but Verbeek is a trash GM who won't admit his mistake in hiring Cronin and the Samueli's are too cheap to pay for two coaches.

Montgomery was my pick for coach of the Ducks before he was hired with the Bruins. He had issues with alcohol and has since worked to be better. However, his time in Dallas was very good and the players really liked him. In Boston, his record speaks for himself. I think he's one of the best coaches in hockey.

I have been vocal of my issues with Cronin and this is such a good coach available. It's ultimately up to Montgomery and whether he would want to coach a team like the Ducks. But if he did.... it would be so good for this team.
