He’s already better than a bunch of guys playing in Laval. How many have this kid’s combination of skating, acceleration, puck skills and shot?

It’s going to be very interesting to see what this kid can do when he fills out and gets stronger and faster. If he continues to develop, Hage will materially alter Hughes’ re-build road map. And that is a good thing resulting from a 21 OA pick.

As I said, Hage reminds me of a young Mogilny. If you’re a youngster and never watched Mogilny play when he first arrived in Buffalo, or if you had the chance, but have forgotten, watch some videos of the young Mogilny and see if you see in Hage, what I see. The fluidity of skating, quick acceleration, superior hand skills and an effective shot.

Like i said, if he is Mogilny (with the good and bad) id be ecstatic.. people said the same about Kovalev - Enigmas are real.. you have to appreciate the Artistry to appreciate the player.

I would not want him if the bad is included because the goal is to win the Cup and expensive players who don't produce in the playoffs are negative assets that hold back strong teams and are cancer for team culture.

Kovalev is an entirely different enigma as he has carried teams in the playoffs and despite his frustrating inconsistencies, he lived for the big moments. Mogilny viewed the playoffs as extra work at a much lower salary and was more than happy to be eliminated.

You could see the potential in the summer rookie development camp where Hage, Florian Xhekaj and Harris were, at least in this writer’s opinion, among the most impactful prospects.

As much as I like Hage and believe that he was something of a steal, the methodolgy you are using is incredibly flawed and really means little to nothing.

After the top 10 to 15 picks, its sometimes better to be lucky than good. But it’s even better to be both good and lucky. In Hage’s case, it’s becoming clear it’s the latter.

In this case it truly was both as Hage was the player that they specifically targeted and moved up in the draft for. Hughes wanted to move up higher so that is where the luck comes in but there is no doubt that Hughes made his own luck by making the move that he did.

I’m only suggesting a stylistic comparison. Let’s wait and see if the similarities in style translates to on ice performance and success.

Bottom line, the kid has talent, who, along with Demidov, Beck, Tuch, Florian Xhekaj, Mesar, Davidson, Hutson, Enstrom, etc. offers us long suffering Habs’ fans some hope for the future. And hope is a good thing. And something we have had very little of in recent years.

For an older fan such as me, Perreault is still one of the best. The admiral has also seen him and understands the comparison.
