When is the waiver wire released?

2 PM EST?

I’m speculating this will be NYI’s last cuts…Engvall would be a big name to hit the wire considering he has 6 years left on his deal at 3M per.

I think it's also one of the last days for assignment waivers before the season opens.

Or is the last day tomorrow?

These should be a busy 48 hours or so.

Looking at the sad group on the waiver wire can’t help but think when 2 more teams are added a good chunk of this type of player will be in the league.

This was said when Vegas and Seattle joined
This was said when Nashville, Atlanta, Columbus, and Minnesota joined
This was said San Jose, Ottawa, Tampa Bay, Anaheim, and Florida joined
This was said when Buffalo, Vancouver, Atlanta, New York, Kansas, and Washington joined
This was said when California, Los Angeles, Minnesota, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, and St. Louis joined

Reality is, yeah we might have some filler for a couple of years, but with it, scoring usually goes up and that combined with the excitement of the new team(s), engagement and fanfare goes up
And then the talent re-settles, competition gets better, and then that will become the norm that people will pine for the next time expansion is mentioned

True. But this era has more AHL level players in the National League than any before.

Idk... some of these AHL tweener/waiver fodder guys could absolutely embarrass some of the bottom 6 guys of the 70s, 80s, 90s..!

The gap between top players and bottom players has certainly been larger, imo at least
The players today have the advantage of skate tech, way better ice, and sticks that aren’t 2x4’s. Put today’s players on old time tube (dull) tube skates and on super soft and snow covered ice with a tree branch for a stick and see how they do.
The league is now full of guys who wouldn’t make the AHL in the days of the original six.
