NCAA: 2024-2025 Transfer Portal

Wise move to return to college for Beck. Post 1st round picks, the leash is super short to show what you have. No chance he would have gone round 1.

Since, Dak Prescott in 2016 (kickstarted by Romo's injury), the number of non first round picks who ended up as a permanent starter are Hurts and Purdy. Ridder was given a chance and failed. Levis likely to lose his spot, O'Connell in LV is as well. Rookie salary scale makes is easier for NFL clubs to move off young QBs to the next one faster.
So, you need to be 100% ready to go when your name is called, be it in your rookie season or years 2 or 3. Trask was given the shot to compete with Baker after Brady retired and didn't impress. Mills got 2 years in Houston and they drafted Stroud at #2. Howell started in 2023 but was traded after Wash got 2nd overall pick and took Daniels, while Howell in Seattle served as the backup to Smith.

Purdy also got extremely lucky with the injuries ahead of him. He made the most of his chance when he got it, but him ever even getting a chance was not a certainty.

Absolutely correct. Need some luck in your side to make it, even as a backup like Mullen and Bethard in SF as well. But he was ready to perform when he got the tap on the shoulder in 2022. If he played like Ridder did for Atl he wouldn’t be the SF QB still.

Non first rounders do not get as many chances. If your shot occurs in your rookie year that might be the only one you ever get.

I thought Beck entered the draft
He declared but appears to have just changed his mind in the past 24 hours. Says he got told he could go between rounds 1 or 3, which round 1 is extremely generous. Don’t see that. He is out of action til March. Can’t throw. Plus elbow injury going to impact his ability to lift weights and he does look slim.

Looking to transfer as now Stockton or other QBs will have an open competition. But Kirby does tend to go with the current guy. Rode Fromm despite Eason returning from injury. Road Bennett despite having more highly recruited kids on the roster.
