The more I think about it, the less likely I see Vancouver and the Avs trading with each other.

I'm sure the Avs might have interest in Miller (not sure how they work the cap out) but I have a hard time seeing Vancouver trading the best player in the deal to a rival they'll have to go through in the playoffs for the foreseeable future. Doesn't seem like a package around Mitts would entice them enough for that.

I think they'll trade whoever they move out east. Buffalo or Carolina are my guess. I can see a Cozens+Byram package interesting them. Probably why we heard Vancouver linked to Byram in rumors a bit ago.

Honestly, I've never seen a situation where either could come to the Avs and have it work out well.

I'm starting to wonder if they might try to build a completly new 3rd pairing rather than just finding a partner for Malinski. I thought Malinksi was pretty well established, but it's been rough for him recently.

It’s not that I hate Malinski, it’s just that if we’re serious about Cup contending (and this new goaltending tandem got me feeling some type a way), then almost none of the present company qualify as third pair quality. Malinski. Middleton. De Haan. Kylington. I mean. They’ve all had pleasant stretches of good play, and most would be good #7’s to have. But I think the third pair and 3C are now what else we need.

IMO Malinski would be fine in the playoffs. He started to have troubles after a stretch of games at 4D. Maybe it was too much ice time for him. IMO what he needs is a better linemate than Middleton, CDH, Kylington, etc. I think that new partner is coming soon.

I can get behind the idea of trying to get Malinski a better partner now and give it time to see if it works. That way, if Malisnki continues to struggle, you still have time to make further moves.

Malinski has had some rough games of late, that's for sure, which is a shame because for a stretch he looked quite good. I fear he'll get eaten alive in the playoffs though.

That said, if Keaton Middleton sets foot on playoff ice I might lose it.

Malinski will get eaten alive in the playoffs. I second losing my shit if Middleton touches playoff ice for us. That guy f***ing sucks.

Yeah I could see it.

I dont think he's ready for the high intensity games yet. May not ever be quite frankly.

He and Middleton played like 9 minutes or less last night.

I'd venture to guess they add 2 Dmen still, perhaps one sooner rather than later as well.

When you consider the strides that Malinski has made to become an NHL regular this season compared to last, I think the Avs will want to hang on to him.

Besides, after they get the upgrade they need, he's likely going to be their #6D and it's much easier to limit his minutes in the playoffs anyways.

I think the Avs will want to target a D-Man that can fill-in should a Top-4 d-man go down to injury. I think that's the key. There are a lot of bottom pairing guys that they can acquire but if these guys can't play higher in the lineup and we have a hole to fill, that could end up costing us.

Either way, just get a D who can handle some of the PK load that Makar is taking.
Agree with you 100%.

I still think the guy they'd want to acquire is M. Pettersson from Pittsburgh. For me, he's the ideal guy.
