Define "head case." Pettersson is a talented player with a lot of tools, but I think he has a different set of mental issues. Goes into protracted slumps, has effort issues, apparently can't get along with someone who is vocal, dropped off as soon as he signed that ultra rich contract. The speculation was maybe the drop off was injury related, but at this point maybe it's something that never heals to 100%?

Allvin alluded to it in his presser, when is this guy going to step up and show that he's worth that mega contract?

I mean, the “winner” that is Miller has been traded off two teams that were in the prime of their contention periods. He seems to have MacK’s demands for perfection from his teammates, but has the delusion of Georgiev where he sees everyone else’s faults but none of his own.

I’d argue if he’s a headcase then there are a ton of headcases in the league. Rantanen is streaky, Milan Hejduk was streaky, Alex Tanguay was SUPER streaky.

And Miller ismore than just “vocal”. Again, his rep for being a jerk preceded his arrival in Vancouver and this is now the second top six player he had such a profound feud with, they had to deal one of the players away.

As @dahrougem2 put it, he demands a level of play from teammates that he himself doesn’t adhere to consistently. I don’t think he demands excellence, he’s just an asshole. A good player, yes, but also an asshole.

Honestly, my dream scenario is for the Jackets to fall out of contention, Werenski to ask out, and for the Avs to swap one of Toews or Girard (with additions) for him. Two Norris caliber dmen, perfection.

Would it be the wisest use of assets? No. However, as a former dman, seeing that defense would be incredible.

Edit: grab Olivier as well

I guess Kaliyev could be buried easy enough if he doesn't work.... He'd add some needed shooting ability that this team could use. But god he's awful at every other aspect of the game.

This seems like a bunch of bullshit. They need to close this loophole.
They really don't, I doubt it's going to become mainstream because the vast majority of players are not that stupid.

Somenone tell Vatrano, that inflation in 10 years... If he thinks living in a state with less taxes than California, that ain't going to make a big difference. Unless he plans to retire in some tax haven.

They will. This is just kicking the cap hit down the road, they restricted the number of contract years for this reason.

Also I don't know how taxes work in California but if it becomes a thing with pro athletes they'll do something about it.

Doesn't sound like the league is too fond of these deferred deals as they feel they circumvent the cap. However, they currently aren't illegal. Bet that changes with the new CBA, along with the whole LTIR loophole.

"It throws out of whack some of the other checks and balances we have in the CBA, which forces interpretations in terms of how we allow it and what’s permissible and what’s not permissible,” Daly said. “The original deferred-comp rules were developed in a non-cap world as opposed to in the cap world, so they kind of were inherited, and so they probably need adjustment on some basis going forward.”
