What about Matt Grzelcyk? His advanced stats are not the greatest this season but then again, he's playing in Pittsburg. I really liked him when he was playing for Boston.

Bednar would absolutely hate Romanov.
A hit-first player who takes himself out of position going for the body contact, takes penalties, is actually rough in transition.
Again, we have to remember… the Avs way of playing and particularly breaking out is three forwards out of the zone. The D has to be able to retrieve a puck with speed, carry it, and regularly make 30+ foot passes through or past forecheckers.
This is why the top 5 of Makar/Toews/Girard/Manson/Malinski all work. They can all skate. They can all make a stretch pass. They can all stick handle and carry the puck. Manson is super underrated in this perspective.
Romanov isn’t a fit, IMO.
Anyone on those lists that you do see as a fit? If they were willing to pay the price for a longer solution with team control?

Armia is an ugly skater. Slow and choppy. Takes a ton of lazy, stick infraction penalties for not moving his feet.
He would struggle big time in Bednar’s system.
We need to target guys that would fit our system. Bednar clearly influences CMac ever since the botched RyJo trade.
Edit: I just saw your previous post and we definitely disagree on this player. I would never call him relentless. I find he goes through huge, lazy stretches and takes bad penalties. We have different opinions on the player, that’s fine.

I just looked at them.
Mike Matheson would be a perfect Bednar player, but he won’t be available. Habs will keep him.
Lindgren and Ferraro are both good fits, especially Lindgren. Mobile, smart, good passer, good skater, can take top 4 minutes whenever needed.
We talk about Colton and Manson being on the block in the offseason depending on the cap, but it could be Girard too.
If you could shave 2M off Girard, and move Wood you've got 4.5M
If they have to make room for Landy, add Colton to that and it's 8.5M.
You get a bigger second pair, without a big drop off. Maybe some money to give Drouin and Malinski.
If they can find the right 4/5 LD this season to help with the run, and then keep him cheap for a couple seasons. It makes some sense to pay a high price.

In what world are they getting a Dman for $3M that can play as a #2/3 Dman which is essentially what Girard plays for us now.

I agree to an extent, especially bigger roles. I think Bednar and CMac have always seen pretty eye to eye on playing styles. Joe I think still appreciates some of the old school style that's effective in the playoffs.
I think that has played out with all three kind of agreeing to a hybrid approach, where they bring in good skaters with puck skill for bottom pair or 4th line roles for the regular season, like Kylington, Malinski, or Caleb Jones on defense, and Ivan, Meyers, or Foudy at forward.
But then bring in guys with grit, and perhaps some size, at the expense of skating and puck handling for the playoffs like JJ or using EJ on defense, and Trenin, or Nico Sturm at forward.
I think Bedsy might have come to appreciate the need for grit and size in the NHL playoffs recently as well. Not full size queen, but more than he used to. He understands the need for some pushback.

You’re probably right, but it doesn’t seem like Bednar cares for the guys brought in at the deadline.
Trenin was stapled to the fourth line and Duhaime was out of favor as soon as he started hitting everything that moved and knocking guys heads off.

I still hope the Avs can somehow pry Isaiah George out of Lou. He would fit this system perfectly, and he's a super positive locker room presence

Just FYI, Sharks fans are ok with moving Ferraro for 2nd round pick, no need for more. But that's just their fans.
Armia is a very decent player when motivated. Especially for a bottom six (4th line) role.
He was so promising once and had very good moments.. was it Jets fans that called him the one man armia, he could make a 3rd line respectable alone. Many years have passed since then though.

No reason for that. Evans is a pure UFA. Lehkonen was an RFA. Considerable difference.

I think it might go for a LHD, like a Lindgren@50%, Määttä or Dumoulin. With a later pick back to us.

Lindgren with salary retention for the Ranger's own 2nd rounder back makes too much sense. We'll probably have to toss them a contract like Ludvig or Rosen or some other AHL bum but that's fine

Lindgren is a worse defenceman than anyone we've played at defence this year, so f*** that. CHD is Cale Makar compared to him.

He looks bad on a tire fire Rangers team while playing hurt most of the season, but he's still a huge reason why Fox has been so effective, he takes the brunt of the Rag's defensive responsibilities and he was a big reason why their PK was so good the past few seasons (Along with Igor)
Bedsy will cream himself if he can deploy Lindgren in the playoffs

Lol no, the complete opposite. He has been dragging Fox down for years, and Lindgren was bad last year as well. The whole Rangers losing skid actually started when Lindgren came back from injury, they broke up the defence pairs that had worked somewhat, and he was inserted next to Fox.
He's the worst D-man on that horrible D-group. Yes, Trouba was better than him. I don't really care what advanced stats say, this is based on watching the Rangers regularly over the last 4 years.

- 26th among Dmen for Even Strength Points
- 71st for TOI among Dmen
- 49th for Even Strength TOI
- 46th for Shifts Per Game
- 57th for SAT%(Mininum 10 games played)
He is quite literally a 2/3D in every which way you look at it. And quite frankly closer to the 2, then a 3. Especially if you're someone who believes there's 32 #1D, 32 #2D, etc.
