Mitts needs to get it together before I suggest something I might regret.

One of us! One of us!Mitts needs to get it together before I suggest something I might regret.
Shoulda never let him go.Mitts needs to get it together before I suggest something I might regret.
If Mitts isn’t hurt, I hope he’s working with a sports psychologist, it’s like he’s got the yips.
The real question is which one of our busting youngsters to we give the Habs in exchange for Evans to complete the hatty?

I’m still waiting on the defenseman.
It was reported CMac has his targets set on D and won’t be waiting around for trade deadline. Today’s move backs up the latter part, he’s not sitting still.
I posted the post below in the main board Parssinen trade thread and thought I'd share it here in response to your post as it illustrates why I'm fully in agreement with you why a Dman is likely the last significant piece we're likely to see by the TDL.I’m still waiting on the defenseman.

Realistically the Avs don't have much ammunition left to make multiple significant moves at the deadline.
This year they basically only have the NYR 2nd since the 4th rounders they have are tied up by the conditions on the 5th round pick (see below).
In 2026 they still have their 1st but the Avs have tended to hold onto their 1st's more often than not in recent years, with the only exceptions being when they were forced to use one to acquire a starting netminder when Grubauer left them high and dry, and when they had to dump Johansen as part of the Walker trade. In 2023 and 2024 they had 3 1st rounders all of which they held onto at the TDL. As such it seems unlikely that CMac would trade the 2026 1st.

In terms of prospects the only ones with significant value are Ritchie and Gulyayev. Gulyayev might be available but I doubt CMac would trade Ritchie given that he's the only legitimate hope of filling the 2C hole internally in 2.5 years when Mittelstadt hits UFA.
Behrens was trending well but won't have any value now after a season ending injury. The Avs surely won't trade Nabokov as he's their only legit goalie prospect at this point. Beyond that there's the 2024 draft class where some guys have been trending reasonably well but not enough to make them cornerstones of TDL deals.
So yeah it basically boils down to NYR 2025 2nd and Gulyayev in terms of deadline assets. Perhaps the Avs make Malinski available in the right deal, especially considering that he's likely to price himself out in the offseason as an RFA, but they'd still have to replace him at 3RHD so it seems unlikely.
All-in-all, the Avs have already effectively spent almost a years worth of picks (ie. 2nd + 3rd + 6th + 7th + Kovalenko) to upgrade their goaltending and to acquire Parssinen. They do still need a 3rd pairing LHD who can PK, so I'd expect that will e the prime focus of any deal they look to make ahead of the TDL, with that NYR 2nd and a lesser prospect earmarked for that trade.
It could be telling how they feel about the defense. If it's a top 4 type with retention, and they're paying a higher price we could see a bit of restructuring in the offseason.
If it's just a more solid #5/6 maybe not.
Also if they got someone good enough they could shut Toews down and let him heal in time for the playoffs if that's possible. While also being able to activate Landy in season.
CMac has at various occasions spoken about the need to acquire guys via trade they feel they can keep long-term and not only as rentals, which makes a lot of sense given how few assets they have.
The guys they've just acquired fit that mantra, with Parssinen an RFA in the summer; Wedgewood having another year left; and Blackwood clearly having given an indication prior to the trade that he was willing to sign long term in Colorado.
With that in mind perhaps we should be looking at upcoming RFA Dmen and/or guys with a bit of term left rather than just UFA's.
UFA Dmen on non-playoff teams:Yeah, that's what I mean. Non-rentals, or guys that have the potential to be.
Which direction they go will be interesting.
Why is capfriendly gone, why.. assholes
UFA Dmen on non-playoff teams:
LHD
Provorov
Lindgren
Petterson
Martinez
Dumoulin
Cole
Maatta
RHD
Savard
Ceci
Rutta
Borgen
Dmen on non-playoff teams who hit UFA in 2026:
LHD
Ferraro
Oleksiak
Chiarot
Matheson
Walman
RHD
Murphy
Schenn
Gudas
TJ Brodie
Holl
What about upcoming RFAs this year and next?
Below are the lists of RFA Dmen for 2025 and 2026 who have arbitration rights. Guys coming off ELC's aren't really worth listing as they most likely won't be available. The arb rights guys might be interesting though since there could be some contractual disputes/clarity that CMac may be looking to take advantage of, just like the Mittelstadt situation for instance.
Kinda funny seeing Malinski at the top of the list (sorted by GP). He's probably a goner in the offseason if not sooner, just like Kerfoot and Newhook before him in similar situations.

From those lists the guys who are on non-playoff teams:
2025 RFA:
Byram
Dobson
Bahl
K'andre Miller
Jokiharju
Romanov
PO Joseph
Fleury
2026:
Schneider
Thrun
LaCombe
Zamula
Dysdale
Broberg
Barron
Stastney
Obviously a bunch of those aren't going to be available, at least not in the Avs' price range. Romanov maybe? Would cost a lot though.
OO and Ludvig have like zero value. One of the guys drafted in the mid rounds of the 2024 draft would have more interest as a throw-inM. Petterson for like OO, Rangers 2nd, Ludvig

Ideally they'd add another cheap depth forward too, like the Duhaime addition last year. Maybe use a 2024 drafted forward as ammo for that tradeM. Petterson for like OO, Rangers 2nd, Ludvig
Drouin - Mack - Nuke
Lehky - Mitts - Moose
RosCo - Pars - Wood
Kivi - Parker - Loc
Ivan
Toews - Makar
G - Manson
Petterson - Malinski
CHD/Kylington
BWood
WWood
I'd be comfortable with that for the cup run.
