Long before that he had a really bad year. But he rebounded the next season in a huge way to the point where everyone pretty much forgot (as it should be).

Point is, people need to chill a little on Mittelstadt. Yes, he’s struggling right now but that doesn’t mean he’s a bust.

There’s a reason he is a 2C and not a 1C, consistency isn’t quite there. When he’s at his best he is a bargain, but he seems to go through slumps, so it averages out

Not like this board would jump to conclusions after say…two games.

The Ducks actually retained?!?!?!

This must mean if retention isn't an issue they're asking the moon for Gibson since he's been on the block for at least 3 years.
Retention for 1.5 year isn't the same commitment as retaining for 3-4-5 years though.

Two games? Brother, it takes me 2 periods of play to jump to conclusions and sometimes even quicker than that. I've had games where I jump to conclusions so god damned fast that they actually contradict each other.

This is the way.

There was one game where I concluded that Zadorov was the next Pronger and an absolute bust in the same shift.

Ducks need to get realistic about Gibson. No one is gonna take a contract with that many red flags at full value AND give them a sizable return. They need to pick one or the other.

It’s the same guy who shits all over Sammy whenever he gets a chance right? But since Sammy has been playing well he has to turn his ire toward someone else.

Naw that ship has sailed even though he appears to still have friends in the organization.
After we won the Cup, I decided to unignore everyone I had ever put on ignore on HFboards.

It was a HUGE mistake.

I like having discussions about players and teams and just because someone has a different point of view, doesn't mean they are always wrong or that I am always wrong. I like having different viewpoints - in a discussion but there are some people on here that have such a narrow vision of things that all they do is dump on a specific player that they don't like for whatever reason.

It's actually laughable and it's EITHER they just aren't watching the games on a regular basis and don't really have a clue if the player they are trashing is actually playing well or not because they had a bad stretch 2 years ago - so that's the idea they stick with OR they ARE watching the games but don't really understand what they are looking at.

It's like a few posters who just couldn't STOP dumping on Bo Nix since April because he didn't have the arm or the feet or the brain or the haircut? to be the Broncos QB and now that he is doing really well... these people have decided to start posting about OTHER sports like it never happened all the while never acknowledging that they were completely WRONG. Only 1 poster said he was wrong about Nix (that I saw) and he said he was happy to have been wrong.

Meanwhile, these other guys are just waiting for Nix to have a bad game so they can get back to trashing him. I really, really hope that the Raiders hire these guys - for their amazing QB analyzing skills - to choose their next QB!!!!

The whole 'Mitteljost' nickname is completely stupid and uncalled for. He's an established #2C that is on pace to producing his THIRD consecutive 50-60 point season in a row and that's why the Avs paid him $5.75M per year. That's the going rate for a player who can produce those kind of numbers. So the little nickname that someone came up with was funny for a few days after the trade but the fact that it's still being today 9 months later is moronic.

It's like people who just cannot seem to grasp that it's not about Byram vs Mittelstadt but more about Byram and what he's going to be asking for on his next contract and that the Avs were absolutely never going to be able to afford that AND what we ended up paying Mitts for and the fact that we had a hole at #2C. Very complex, I know.

I don't think anyone wants that full contract even for future considerations. Too risky.

6.4M AAV for a bad goalie can hurt a contender for multiple years and shitty teams have to reason to get him.

He only has positive value at 50% retention and it's not that much.

Be interested in Brandon Carlo if he hits the block. Decent contract and 6’4”. He is a northpaw though. Local guy who was dumb not to go to DU, but smart enough to avoid CC.

And before anyone invokes Mike Chambers about taking a local guy. I was doing a deep dive in the Avalanche drafting and it was looking like they would have been better off just making the homer pick.

We don't really need another righty, though. This would be a move to replace Manson, and I think Manson give us a better chance to win this year.

I was thinking Carlo as well, but he’s a right handed and we already have a righty on all 3 pairs set

? Malinski has been good this season. Adding 4+ Mil on a position we have good players at, is not a smart move.
ya I don't mean a 4 mil just another in case of injury or if Malinski struggles or an injured Manson.
The better more expensive player for the left d yes. The way Manson

Mittlejost wasn’t worth Byram, and that’s a fact

It's not like Byram has been that good in Buffalo lol. And while Mittelstadt has been meh this year, he was f***ing awesome last year in the playoffs.
So if we can go back to that logic, Byram was f****** in the playoffs the year we actually WON the cup. A big reason being him. Again, Byram > Mittlejost

Push your snake oil somewhere else. Mittlejost is hilariously bad and actually is like shining a beacon on your trolling because there's an earth sized gap between the two players. Byram never hit his potential, filling the #2C position was more important than keeping him. Girard has been brilliant in the same position and Byram's stock would've only gone down further. Plus it allowed room for Malinski to be on the roster and shine.

I agree, Byram was great. Arguably the best defenceman in the finals.

That doesn't change the fact that he was f***ing shit the following two seasons, and it was the right time to cut bait. He was not going to get into the top pair with us, so using him to acquire a #2C was the right move.
