According to Pierre LeBrun, the hurricanes were also interested and in talks with the sharks about Blackwood.
Yeah no doubt all teams are gauging the prices for the pieces they’re interested in.

Now is the time where a seller is likely to get closest to his asking price. Otherwise, they have little motivation to sell.

If the Avs have a major target, it’s obviously better to get it sooner rather than later. But the cost needs to be reasonable as well

Goes in line with what Kypreos said on Tuesday.

CMac had the target(s) identified and wasn’t going to wait around for somebody to outbid them or sit until closer to the trade deadline.

He said it’s the same thing for the D we are looking for. Avs have their guy(s) identified and might be willing to overpay or meet the asking price to get a deal done soon. Won’t wait until the deadline.

Welcome back JMFJ!!!

Seriously though, I wonder who they've targeted.

And something needed to be done sooner rather than later.

I wonder who that guy could be?

I've been curious about how Oleksiak would fit on the Avs for a while, but I haven't watched him closely enough to gauge his level of play.

Specifically, I've wondered if he could play on the top pair with Makar, because I think Toews needs a lesser role, and Cale needs help with net front duties. Cale's ok at this, but it's not a strong suit of his, and Toews isn't great either. Makes the top pair more vulnerable against top lines than it should be.

But he's #5 in minutes on Seattle, so it seems as though he's more of a 2nd/3rd pair tweener, which is exactly the type of defenseman I thought the Avs may add. He'd help Malinski with net front battles and corner battles too.

He's Seattle's top PKer as well. Something the Avs have had issues with for a few years now. Making $4.6M for a third pair guy doesn't seem like it would work on the Avs though, so maybe they pay for Seattle to retain, and that's where the "overpayment" could come into effect.

I have a feeling they had Blackwood targeted for a while now. Either in trade or a UFA replacement for Georgiev.

Fits their price range and his untapped upside (that doesn't sound right).

100% to all of that. To further that, and granted it was a couple of years ago, he was one of their best D in that playoff series against the Avs. Stylistically, that Seattle team was similar to how most recent iterations of the Avs play. And he did well in that scenario.

Like I said, it was a couple of years ago but based on his game, there’s a decent chance it ages well. He’s 6’7” and uses that to take away space. How has that been diminished substantially?

The only pairing that’s likely awkward is him with Manson. His age might make him easier to re-sign if things are going well.
