I would think Chicago would want Ritchie, but I guess it's always possible they'd want Mitts.

I don't think Boston is about to pop the cork on a rebuild though.

Perhaps, and that could make the deal easier, but that Freidman report says Chicago doesn't want futures, so they may prefer Mitts over Ritchie, and if it's close with Dallas, the Avs may have to do that.

I don't know what Boston wants to do, but I feel like they should retool a bit and get younger. They've lost some core players recently and they'll most likely miss the playoffs this year.

Like I said, I don't believe it should be an issue. It is much more straight-forward and honest in its intentions than say Vegas continuously LTIR'ing Stone?

Threre's a lot of "shady" stuff in the NHL. I just think it would be refreshing to allow a team to purchase cap hits. I do believe they would need to update the CBA to include a minimum daily payroll for active players... but again. It's honest, straightforward and something some GMs/owners might want to take advantage of at different stages of a their team's build. It would still cost a retention slot, right? And those are limited so it's not like it's going to get out of hand. There will just be a few whoppers.

I’m not going to disagree that the league should allow it. But they don’t, so it’s really not worth arguing about.

I said it before but a guy like Mavrik Bourque is likely a piece they are targeting. Dallas might hold on tightly to him because they have 5 UFA forwards and many at top positions with come key players getting raises next season.

I understand why Mitts is more appealing than Ritchie. Ritchie might just become Mitts but in 3 years, so why wait. It might be the competitive advantage we have as long as we can flip Ritchie + for a Mitts replacement. Thats the hard part. Would probably be enough for Nelson but that's a risky move.

Probably yeah. Ritchie I can't judge whether they'd want to keep. Nuke is damn good and cheap, but he's a risk that let us down in two playoffs. It'd come down to whether our scouts think Pettersson can get back to at least PPG form.

In a nanosecond. I trust Pettersson's ability to regain his form way more than I trust Nichushkin to stay healthy/clean.

They go to Eagles games for fun, too?

I personally would not.

The deal would leave Colorado with only ~$8M in cap next next season. They'd need to spread that across (5) players, including two top-6 forwards.

And to state the obvious, it'd be a risky acquisition based on EP's recent struggles.

It likely won't happen as I doubt the Avs want to pay another forward double digits but I'd still take a swing on EP. If he doesn't get back info form then you're ****ed and the window is probably slammed shut but you might be headed in that direction anyways without big time improvement beyond the MacKinnon line. However, if he gets back to even 80% of where he was at his peak then you might have the best 1-2 punch in the league down the middle.

If EP were playing well, he’d never be available in the first place.

The only chance of getting a high reward player requires taking risk.

Now I understand that it may be too much risk. And at the same time, I highly doubt they would acquire him. His salary doesn’t fit with building depth.

As much of a drunk as he is, at least they have Eric Lacroix who actually played the game and spent time in management. He’s the only guy out of those two outlets with a clue.

Of course, he’s flanked by the human dumpster known as Rudolph and Supersize AJ so it’s hard to take him serious.

CMac is galaxy braining this thing isn't he? Just no way to pull off a trade that's going to make that many teams happy. He should kick the scouts from New York, Vancouver, Winnipeg, and New Jersey out of the arena.

I understand that and don't blame anyone who feels that way. He has looked terrible for long stretches and some of the public comments suggest he just doesn't get it.

The thing with me is his skating has regressed hard the past two seasons. There seems to be something physically wrong with him. I don’t think this is just a bad fit problem in Vancouver. He’s just broken. And sometimes it’s not about rehabbing an injury for a month or two. Sometimes it just never comes back. I don’t feel the Avs should even consider this.
