If Carolina has offered 100m or more, in order for any team on the open market to match that money they’d have to offer 14.29M AAV on a 7 year deal. And that’s if it’s 100M on the nose total. If Carolina offered 101 or 102 we’re talking even higher numbers.

If it’s money Mikko wants, we’re going to see a deal worked out here pretty soon. If not I’m guessing he gets traded and we’re going to HATE it. Edmonton or Dallas are getting him this year.

You think he’d refuse to waive to go play beside the best player in the world and the odds on Stanley Cup favorites for 3 months? Do you not remember than run last year? I’d say the odds of him blocking a trade to Edmonton as a rental are closer to 0% than 10%. I wouldn’t be shocked if Edmonton was his most desirable destination in the entire NHL for the rest of this season.

I think a majority of NTCs have Edmonton on it, but when it comes TDL time and you're a pending UFA you're probably willing to waive for Edmonton because you don't have to deal with the Winter, they're going to make a playoff run, they have two of the best centers in the world, the arena is one of the nicest in the league and the owner doesn't mind spending on amenities.

It's a different trade then just trading him to a team where he has no say in the matter.

Besides, I don't think he cares about being part of a 'run' in Edmonton or otherwise. He has his Cup and now he wants his bag.

Also - accepting a trade to Edmonton so that he can 'pad his stats' wouldn't do much for his 'stock' league-wide imo. It would only confirm that he needs to be playing with a Top-3 player in the league to be that productive 100 point player.

At least if he stays in Carolina for the playoffs and doesn't produce as much, it can be blamed on the system, the fit and/or the coaching.

I actually don't think Mikko is all about the money, but he chose to listen to his agent while he was on the Avs.

I think he regrets it now.

I have this weird feeling he wants to come back. Yeah, blah blah you can act like it comes from wishful thinking if you want, but I think he seen his whole career as beeing an Av, maybe getting his number retired just didn't handle it right.

Emotionally he doesn't seem willing to envision himself elsewhere long term. There is a lot of time between now and then, so we'll see if that changes.

I was right about Makar, right about calling Nuke the Russian Mark Stone (in more ways than I'd like). Every once in a while I read it right.

The Avs/his agent didn't communicate that well enough for him. Finnish players in the 4-nations all said that Rantanen was still kinda shocked about the trade, banging on about how he didn't want it to happen and would've prefered to stay with the Avs.

Yeah, Mikko wants the bag. He got the bag last time around with the Avs and threatened holding out, and he wants the bag again. He's got his Stanley Cup, now he wants to be amongst the highest paid in hockey.

IMO the most likely scenario is Mikko signing with Carolina for 12.5M annually. I can't see any team in UFA offering him the same, and I think money is his #1 interest.
