If he doesn't significantly turn things around he's not even worth 9M.
C'mon lol.

He produces next to MacKinnon. Despite what some of you think, producing next to superstar players is not something everyone can do. Ask Oilers fans, how much they struggled over the years to find someone other than Draisaitl to ride shotgun with McDavid. Rantanen does it pretty damn well with MacKinnon.

Once again, this slander against Mikko by some posters here is beyond ridiculous. "Not even worth 9M" Jesus f***ing Christ.

Gotta love the contrast when MacKinnon is calling for his jersey to be retired and here some people are basically saying he wasn't even worth his current contract.

He knows what's good for him. He'll take a discount. He'll be extra motivated after he realises he's been coasting and he doesn't want to suffer dry barbecue and college basketball any longer. I don't care what he's paid, the spreadsheet nerds are there for that.

There is part of me that thinks that scenario is legit possible, even if it's a snowballs chance in hell.

Rantanen does it pretty damn well.

I'm not really interested in this argument with you. Not that I didn't expect you to take exception to the comment either.

Mikko needs to reset himself, it's obvious. Hope he does it.

Mikko is an elite W. Not questioning his worth either. But I’d rather the Avs use their assets to acquire Sid over Mikko. It’s a matter of what benefits the team more now.

I don’t like this. Mikko might be a little lazy but he’s also highly skilled. It breaks my heart to see this situation unfolding the way it is. 9296 is a number combination I will never forget. Yes, it’s been a while. But this guy is a champion even if he has become slightly lazy. I won’t root for him against the Avs. But I will pull for him against others. And I hope he doesn’t come into conflict with the Avs trajectory, whatever that might be. But the guy is a champion and a high pressure performer. I can’t forget that.

So long as the Avs have Mitts as their 2C, good luck with that.
Crosby has made it painfully clear he’ll never leave Pittsburgh. Malkin got defensive about his name in trade rumors just the other day. I wish people could process it all and move onto someone else. The only time Mack and Crosby will ever be teammates again will be at the olympics

I watched the whole penguins game. They’re a complete mess. I don’t see a path for them to make the playoffs, and their goaltending is horrendous.

Call me crazy, but Ilya Nabokov in a Crosby package? I don’t see how Crosby would feel comfortable going through another rebuild, and they’re not close to being competitive.

Nothing crazy about it.

Nabokov doesn’t have much value and would be a throw-in to get a deal done, not close to being the main piece.

When the Rantanen trade was going down, everyone was claiming the Avs werent done and had more moves to follow. In the month since, they haven't so much as traded a fart. Interesting.
No media reports is a sign something is close when it comes to the Avs. Whether it gets to the finish line is another story.

Crosby has won plenty enough. He's not desperate. There are not that many people in the world of sports, not just hockey, who can say they've only played for a single club in their careers. Crosby very much seems like he wants to be one of those men, and if so, I applaud him for it.

Also, not exactly enticing to sign with the Canes right now for Mikko, 3-0 for Leafs inside 7 minutes...

Friedman on Hockey Night in Canada:

- Canes met face-to-face with Andy Scott during the Four Nations.

- Made an offer “in the 9 digits” to extend Rantanen. Meaning at least $100m.

- Rantanen’s camp have said they need time, not saying yes or no.

- Lots of teams circling and waiting to see if Carolina wants to trade him.

The 90M mark would be 8x11.25M, so at the very least they matched what we offered him.

I just listened again and I made a mistake.

Friedman said “in the 9 digits” so that means at least $100m.

So, at least $12.5m AAV as that would be $100m over 8 years.
He's gonna f*** around and end up getting paid, but on a team that sucks.

IMO, take the deal. Play on a good team with your friend.

I doubt it's about the money at this point. It's not going great in Carolina. So why would he sign on a bad team on July 1st then?

He overplayed his hand in Colorado, but he didn't expect this to be the outcome. I still wonder if he had known what was going to happen, would he have taken the last offer by the Avs.
