Are you assuming Nelson’s going to sign in Minnesota?

No, I’m assuming the Avs won’t want to extend a 33 year old who’s already making $6m and is almost a certainty to sign a horrendously inflated contract that will be an absolute boat anchor in a year or two.

Man what a change in the sentiment with Rantanen since the trade. Most were ready to storm Ball Arena to take CMacs head a few weeks ago.

How quickly things change.

There’s a few of us here who were actually very pleased with the return right when it happened on that infamous Friday night.

It was mostly mainstream media and fans who don’t watch the Avs and only see Rantanen highlights burying MacK/Makar created chances that said it was a terrible deal for us.

There was an Islanders fan on the main board talking about how he’s one of a long line of important hockey players from his family and the city/town he comes from. It almost made it seem like the prodigal son returning to Minnesota was a fait accompli. Yes, I realize that’s a little flowery but still.

Thats fair. Most of the hysteria was on Twitter. Was crazy there for a couple of days.

The trade is definitely way too early to draw conclusions on.

But man was it infuriating listening to so called insiders and sports analysts, who are supposed to be knowledgeable about the game, talk about Mikko. It’s like they only watch highlights and look at stat sheets to draw their conclusions. The narratives they used to describe the player and his playstyle were wildly inaccurate when looking at his recent history.

I never really realized how little of a difference there is between them and casual fans. It’s like they are just that, but with connections.

What are they gonna make him the mayor or something too?

The simple reality is, there’s only so much hockey they can actually watch. Between the writing they have, interviews, podcasts, general reading they do, etc, there’s only so much time they can spend watching hockey. Then, they’re not just following one team, they’re following the league.
Then a massive trade happens and all these guys need to come out with an opinion almost immediately. They don’t have 2 weeks to research and watch and deep dive into stats.
So they’re forced to spew what base knowledge they have. Some of that base knowledge could be 1 or 2+ years old.

Then you also have a guys who have insider knowledge but clearly lack actual hockey knowledge like Seravalli.

I understand but I miss the days of journalism, sports or otherwise, where people spoke of what they know and stuck to that. Maybe this is just “old man yells at clouds” but that my opinion on it.

You know what I always don’t understand and it doesn’t make much sense? It’s whenever there is something important behind closed doors, like meetings or trades that happen, and people say, I wish I was a fly on the wall so I could hear what those conversations were like. Why not just say I wish I could sit there in the room(as a human being and not a fly) and hear what was being said? You have a better chance at being there in the room as a human than being a fly

I wish I could sit in Charlize Theron's bedroom, and see what was going on.

Yeah, do flies even have ears?! Could you even understand what they're saying if you had the brain of a fly?
