Sure, but Mikko does have value still as well. Maybe it's a futures package that you can flip later. Or, maybe you take the bet and trade for Pettersson AND Demko from Vancouver. I don't f***ing know.
If Carolina trades Mikko now, it will look silly. Absolutely. But to claim it's going to be a disaster value wise is far from certain.
Nah, hes busy negotiating McJesus for Mittelstadt, but Oilers are unreasonable and cant see how money they save on the salary difference between them can help them improve their depth - they could have even 2 mittelstadts!

Not only has there been buzz that the Hurricanes could potentially flip the pending UFA in the coming weeks, but now, it appears as though Rantanen doesn't see his future in Carolina either.

I agree, but what's the move? It takes two teams to trade. Lots of teams are within a few points of a playoff spot so they likely won't be sellers

For a run they could get a team to take half mikko salary to get to around 2-5 to 3 million and send out that much salary it’s not hard not even a little bit

There has been plenty of talk about how a lot of players have had the Oilers taken off their NTC:s after last year. We saw how they actually got some decent deals with free agents too.
Winning fixes everything (not sure about Winnipeg but mostly all lol).

Nelson: Meh, alright, but we won’t re-sign him. Pure rental.
Jones: Alright, sounds good if we can get some retention.
Schenn: I like his game but he’s lost a few steps and would probably struggle in Bednar’s skating-heavy system.
Gourde: Broken player. 5’9”.
Palmieri: Yuck.
Ferraro: Don’t mind him, but he can’t pass or breakout at all and would struggle in Bednar’s system.
Grzelcyk: Yuck.
