Sure but in Conroy's case, he's already said publicly a few times that the moves they are looking at are going to be - for the future.

So I understand that they are just outside the playoffs but it seems like he's being realistic about where his team is at.

I can see that applying to a Mitts/Kadri swap, but have a harder time seeing Andersson.

I think Dallas are getting Seth Jones...eventually.

I think the next best thing would be adding Rasmus to our Top-4 - he's got this year and 1 more at $4.4M. IF C-Mac is already talking to Conroy about Kadri...well then maybe it's a bigger deal then expected.

Any chance we're waiting to see who is all injured following the tournament? I wonder if that could be a revealing factor to how everyone handles the deadline. Apparently some players won't be in their lineups following the tourney. I'm pretty sure McCavoy is out the rest of the season.

Wow thats steep in both term and AAV for a dude with like 4 months of good play. Puts the Blackwood deal in perspective too
That's exactly how everyone outside of the Avs fans are talking about the Blackwood deal.

Lankinen has been good in this league for a while. Blackwood has been a bit more of a starter with more games, but their career stats are otherwise fairly similar TBH.

That 4-5M with decent term is just what NHL goalies get these days.

I like how Dallas is getting Mikko AND Jones.

Don't know what it says behind paywall.

“Obviously, this is my fourth year here. I’m not going to go through the whole process when I signed. Just where I’m at, you know, 30 years old, I still have some good years ahead. I want to hope to maybe be in a situation where I’m competing for a Stanley Cup, at least playing some meaningful games in May and hopefully June. That’s where I am right now. Discussions with the agent and stuff like that have been going on. Obviously, there’s a lot of moving parts to something like this. But it is what it is, kind of, right now.”

Jones said he has talked with his agent, Pat Brisson, in the past about the possibility of being traded, and they decided to make it public to “get in front of right now, try to push the needle a little bit more.”

“It’s hard to put a finger on it, right?” Jone said. “If it happens in the next two weeks, then it happens. If it’s this summer or later on, it is what it is. Obviously, I have a full no-movement and I do control it. At the same time, we only control so much. But, yeah, as long as I’m here as a Blackhawk, I’m going to give 100 percent effort and max every night and try to help this team get better and better.”

Blackhawks interim coach Anders Sorensen didn’t expect any issues surrounding Jones’ desire for a trade.

“He’s a pro. I think he’s been great the last couple weeks here,” Sorensen said. “He’s found his game again. He’s very well-liked in the locker room. I don’t see any issue there.”

If Carolina trades Mikko should they fold as a team?
No. If they don't like what they see or the cap number doesn't fit in their plans, it would be stupid for them to double down on their error and create a 8-year cap problem for themselves. If that's their evaluation of the player and the contract demands, it's smarter for Tulsky to take the L, get laughed at by armchair GMs, and lose a few net assets than to create a Huberdeau-like problem for his team going forward

5. Seth Jones
Right Defense, Chicago Blackhawks
Age: 30
Stats: 38 GP, 6 G, 20 A, 26 Pts
Contract: 5 years remaining, $9.5 million AAV
Scoop: Jones verbalized for the first time this week that he’s talking to the Blackhawks about options to potentially play for a winner. Do the massive salary cap increases coming make it easier for the Hawks to move Jones? Maybe. At $9.5 million, Jones will count for just 8 percent of the cap three seasons from now. Yes, he will be 33 then, but he is such a gifted and effortless skater there shouldn’t be any concern on the age curve chart. Jones has averaged 25:18 over four seasons in Chicago. He is a fine defenseman, just an overpaid one, and the Blackhawks are willing to be creative to move a player who doesn’t necessarily line up with their timeline.

6. Casey Mittelstadt
Center, Colorado Avalanche
Age: 26
Stats: 57 GP, 9 G, 23 A, 32 Pts
Contract: 2 years remaining, $5.75 million AAV
Scoop: Given that both Mittelstadt and Bowen Byram are on our Targets board, it’s fair to say that neither side has been enthralled with the one-for-one swap that was one of the true surprises of Deadline 2024. Unlike Byram, Mittelstadt is at least under contract for two seasons beyond this one, so he would provide a little cost certainty moving forward. He just hasn’t quite been a fit, or as productive, in Jared Bednar’s lineup and we’re told the Avalanche are willing to shake things up if they can find the right deal.

7. Bowen Byram
Left Defense, Buffalo Sabres
Age: 23
Stats: 54 GP, 7 G, 22 A, 29 Pts
Contract: Pending RFA, $3.85 million AAV
Scoop: It’s been a bit of an odd tenure for Byram in Buffalo. He arrived at last year’s deadline in exchange for Casey Mittelstadt and seemed genuinely excited to be part of the solution. Byram has played well. And yet, he has been eligible to sign a contract extension since July 1 and is still on track to be a restricted free agent. There’s been no shortage of teams calling as a result.

40. Mikko Rantanen
Right Wing, Carolina Hurricanes
Age: 28
Stats: 55 GP, 26 G, 40 A, 66 Pts
Contract: Pending UFA, $4.625 million AAV
Scoop: The Canes pulled off the blockbuster deal almost exactly one month ago, snatching Rantanen from Colorado on Jan. 24. One month later, they haven’t come to an agreement on an extension. Rantanen’s production has slipped in Carolina, too, with just two points in six games – even if his underlying numbers suggest he’s played just as well (or better!). Carolina won’t be afraid to flip him if they can’t extend him, and the closer we get to March 7 without a deal, the more likely it is. Chicago already retained half, so Carolina could knock Rantanen down to just a $2.313 million cap hit for the remainder of this season if they wanted. Juicy!

I don't think it's about the money he wants. There are already rumors out there that Caolrina is willing to pay him what he wants. I think it's that he doesn't want to re-sign there.

The agent is fine, he got Draisaitl and Blackwood signed quickly with no issue.
Sure, Draisaitl got everything he wanted from the Oilers and then some. Blackwood also got a pretty decent deal that we us Avs fans obviously think is a gamble that is going to pay off, but pretty much everyone else looks at like "why?".

I think that he is close enough to FA that he will just wait. Unless Carolina throws him an offer he can't pass up, there really isn't a reason for him to sign right now.

But then he loses the 8th year and the ability to make ~14M AAV at age 37.

Unless he wants to go the Matthews route and signs like a 3 year contract. That'd be a huge risk for him at his age though.
