Wood is the OG Mittelstadt:

Nice splits.

Wood had a better resume than Drew O'Connor though with his 19 and 17 goal seasons. Also half as many teams on his NTC.

They're in a bit of a predicament if Wood keeps playing like he has lately, but if he didn't have his back injury this year, and he played more with LOC last year, I think his contract would look much different.

That was one of the best 3rd lines I've ever seen in Colorado. It just got derailed from injuries to all three at different times.

Now the concern is whether Wood's back injury will prevent him from playing like he did last year? I think they can find a way to move him though if they need to.

How many games would it take trying Necas at 2C before determining that it’s a viable option? If the Avs are considering this, it would have to happen soon, right? If the Avs aren’t trying this out of the break, wouldn’t one be able to assume it’s not in the cards?

Wood would have been a good fit here with his speed and regular bottom six strengths. Now with the back injury I don't know if he can play for long before the issues flare back up. He'll try to push through the pain to extend his career, but maybe he'll LTIR-retire if it gets too hard to live with.

I just can’t watch them together on a line. I know their BFF’s but holy shit they’re so bad together. Just two absolute boneheads in the defensive zone consistently confused and losing coverage. If there’s ever a time where the Avs are trapped in their own zone, 50+% chance it’s them out there.

That percentage has gone up since we traded Mikko.

Yeah realistically, it's Wood's back that is causing this. For $2.5M, if he scores anywhere near 30 points (like last year), that's a big win because he doesn't play on the Power Play.

I posted in another thread how ineffective the Kivi/Kelly/OC line has been offensively. Only (1) 5v5 goal as a unit in nearly 300 minutes of ice time, a startling number considering Kivi has 11 goals. It's time to shake up that bottom-6.

I really don't understand why we are still talking about this "Necas 2C" option because we f***ing know it's not going to happen under Bednar. In a very desperate spot, maybe. But he likes to load up his lines. He'd rather have Kelly as the #2C than break up MacKinnon and Necas right now.

We saw how it played out with Rantanen, and I don't really care if you think Necas could be a better center than Rantanen. It's just not the Bednar way.

Regardless of whether or not it's Bednar's decision or Necas's, the solution for 2C does not lie with him. It's gotta come from somewhere else. Unlikely at this point that it's going to be Mittelstadt, so I'm not sure where else it can be.

I know we don't really need any more wingers with Nuke coming back, but Damn Brandon Tanev would be such a good fit on the 3rd line. Maybe if you could convince Seattle to take Wood.

Edit* Taven is everything that you want Wood to be.

I'd say you're correct. They're not going to try it if we don't see it right away. No better time than a weak schedule, and there is 6 games before we're locked into Mitts for the season.

They either need to try Necas at 2C, or try him with Mitts at center. If they don't, I hope they have one hell of a trade for a center locked up already.

If none of those things happen and all we get is a bottom pairing D, Cmac should go down with the ship the moment the team is eliminated from the playoffs.

This.. play the fkn 3rd line guys on the fkn third line. It should be Colton - Drury - LOC.

Colton's only job is to skate, hit, and shoot up and down the LW over and over for the rest of the year.

I don't think we're going to see Necas separated from MacK anytime soon. That's just not how Bednar operates.

Yeah, I've heard that plenty. If I'm Cmac, Bednar complies or he's gone.

There is very limited trade options for centers. Unless Cmac knows Kadri or Crosby is coming. I'd force his hand.
Again, I don't think it's just Bednar, nor do I think MacFarland acquired Necas with any intention of trying him at center. Necas simply isn't a center anymore than Rantanen was.

Now, I WOULD like to see Necas and MacKinnon on separate lines once we start up again, but guess we'll see what happens. They can't continue the way they did before the break indefinitely, and they know it.

Cmac literally said he wouldn't mind if Necas was tried at center.

One of those things needs to happen though. Either see if Necas can prop up Mitts like he did KK, or try him at center.

I personally like the idea of trading Mitts for Zacha, and moving Necas to the second line the most of the realistic scenarios.
