Rumor: 2024-2025 Trade Rumors and Free Agency Talk | Part Deux

One game sample size outside of the Rangers system, but Zibanejad (64.5% CF, 73.1% xGF) was pretty darn good against an insane Canada line-up.

No points but I thought he looked good and was their #1 in ice time. :dunno:

Crosby likely feels loyalty towards Malkin and Letang who re-upped there because of him. It would probably be a mutual decision between those 3 players and the GM if he were to ever agree to move.
They're all getting shipped out - or they should be.

8.5M through 2030 currently sitting at 31 years old.

So.. that's nice

You all are bat shit if you think he's getting traded for a handcuf like return the way Vancouver did with tantrum boy.
If he gets traded its because he asks for it and decides where to go. He's also 37. He's not getting generational player return.

Something like Mitts, Nabokov, a 2nd and a conditional first if we reach the cup finals.

If he's traded it's going to be for much less that that.
RIAL’s proposed deal reminds me of the Godfather scene where he makes them an offer they can’t refuse. Pens management to Crosby. ‘Sid, you gotta take one for the team and go to the Avs. We’ve a handshake deal with Sakic and CMac so you can retire with the Pens.’

For reference: 35 yo Gretzky was traded to the Blues for 3 nothing players and 2 draft picks.

Again the behind the scenes revenue considerations with a player of that caliber will need to be factored in.

RIALs offer but Cup Finals makes some sense. You get potentially three deep runs out of it.

I'm not 100% on when signing bonuses are paid out, but 15M of the next two years is paid up front. If it's already paid out that's huge, if not it could bring the return down slightly if they're saving that money too.

Instantly being cup favorites for the next three years being the main point.

It's not ideal, but...

Based on recent discussions, most would be on board with bringing Kadri back. He's (basically) three years older than Zibanejad and his contract is only one year shorter (2029). He'll turn 38 in October of his final season.

Point is that most options are going to get ugly at some stage. Unless, of course, the Avs gamble on another youngish guy again, but my faith has been crushed by the Mittelstadt experience. MacKinnon is probably going to win his 2nd straight Hart Trophy and I'm not sure Colorado will get out of the first round. I'm willing enjoy the McDonalds now and deal with the high cholesterol later, if you will (horrible analogy).

I see the merit, if he has a monster tournament, but it would need to be serious show out level to get any team to take that risk let alone Colorado.

Cmac is trying to thread the needle of going for it while also trying to stay as competitive as possible for as long as possible.

With Kadri you know the fit is there, and his current play is backing up his cap hit. It makes the risk a little more palatable.

"Much less" than my proposal but all you did was swap out Ritchie for Nabokov and make the 1st a 2nd. Your condition is also easier to reach than mine.

Mitts, Nabokov, 2nd, Conditional 1st
vs.
Mitts, Ritchie, 1st, 2nd with condition

I'd take Kadri over him, no question. Even with the age concerns. Just a matter of whether Calgary makes him available (same could be said for Mika though).

Fat Frank did interview Calgary's GM, and he stated he'd be looking at deals to get younger but stay competitive.

Mitts makes perfect sense in that context.

Ritchie + 1st + 1st (or Ritchie + 1st + 2nd)

Not the same

My second 1st is conditional on us winning the Stanley Cup.

Would you be concerned with giving that up if it means we win another Cup?
This question has nothing to do with his market value though. We'd both give up the entire farm for a guaranteed cup. Crosby or not.

Right, so if we didn’t win the Cup, my second 1st is a 2nd… the same thing you’d be giving up if we only reached the finals.

I just find it odd you say he’d cost much less than my proposal but the only key difference is Ritchie and Nabokov.

The Pens aren’t trading him for scraps just because he asks to be traded. They will still get decent value.

Jacob Macdonald has 20 goals in 41 games for the eagles ?!!?
Okay.... at this point, I have to inquire... Is he playing Defense or Forward?

Hindsight is 20/20. NOBODY here wanted to let Val go. Best player in the SCF, in his mid-20s, two way monster who honestly was the best player on the ice for either team whoever the Avs played when he was on his game.

Nobody knew what would happen to him then. If we did, we obviously let him walk.
We've been told that the Avs management were well aware of Nuke's enjoyment of a substance that makes one unavailable to play in the NHL if detected in their urine.

The Avs may have thought the risk was low enough on their part. Maybe they thought they could control him. Hell, the way they were immediately able to whisk him out of Seattle before anyone was able to conduct an interview is impressive. Almost as impressive as the league and the public's willingness to ignore this whole episode and or find out exactly what the hell went on to end with a hooker from eastern Europe (who appears to be a victim of the sex trade and had someone take her passport from her) in his room, completely f***ed up on drugs to the point that the team doctor wouldn't even allow an Uber to take her home.

That doctor was also fired by the Avalance later that summer.

The Avs absolutely knew about Nuke's problems and spent money to ensure they had a disaster cleanup procedure on hand for when/if things came to a head. Since he's got busted, they've appeared to want him to complete the absolute least amount of work necessary to get clearance from the NHL to get back into the lineup. The NHL appears to have wanted to do the same thing.

So he got busted again.

And again.

Is anyone giving a shit about the dude right now other than me? He has the supreme gift of his build and natural athletic talents and has a work ethic that is off the charts. Some of that may be/have been fueled by stimulants. I can't help but feel the Avs have been obtuse about the whole situation and sacrificed his well-being for being available to play.

Why did the Avs have any reason to worry? Nichushkin had done nothing until that point to show the Avs he was a risky player who would fail drug tests and end up in the PA program. He played the SCF with a broken foot the final couple of games.

Nobody had a clue he would become this big of a risk.
