Rumor: 2024-2025 Trade Rumors and Free Agency Talk | Part Deux

The only notion of Necas playing center was because he mentioned that he wanted to. And the reason he wanted to was because he wanted a bigger role on the Canes. He was talking about how him and Brindamour didn’t see eye to eye and he wanted more opportunity but that he had to prove to Brindamour that he deserved it.

He’s now the 2nd most important forward on our team. He’s playing with MacKinnon and top minutes, top PP. he’s getting the added role he wanted. I would bet significant money that his desire to be 2nd line center has sunk into the toilet after his promotion to top line winger here.

I know you're really down on Bednar right now, and in a lot of ways I don't disagree. However this organization unlike others does fallow a certain code.

That's probably why we have three cups in the last 30 years, and so many other organizations can't touch that outside of Tampa.

I think maybe they've got a few things figured out since we have more cups than any franchise in that span I think. Unless Tampa has us beat?

So you change out Bednar and the coach we bring in can’t get necas, Mack, Val, Cale going. We’d be way more f***ed. It’ll be ride and die with bednar. You have a lot more worries, damned with the devil you know I say

I have no issue trying him there. Next year, we need to start getting all the guys going . Playoffs are coming. Mack already doesn’t play defense. Can’t really. With another Mack at 2c

Just kidding...I'm actually one of the lucky ones. My wife is a f***ing rock. Smart, better looking than I have any rights to be with, and she actually enjoys my company. Not sure what's wrong with her but I'm good with it.

To be honest, I haven't watched enough of the Canes to tell you. I just know that everyone in Carolina I have talked to have said it would be best to not waste his talent there. They have all told me he's just not nearly as effective when played as C.

The winger we have that I wouldn't mind attempting to see if he could play center...Lehky. He's one of the smartest players on the team. I just don't think he's got the puck skills to run a line himself. But when it comes the defensive responsibilities of a center...holy shit he can do it.

Good lord. Mcann being brought in to try at C is a terrible idea. There is being desperate and then there is being stupid.

I guarantee Necas has zero interest in playing center at the moment. He was trying to get a bigger role in Carolina.

If I’m Necas I flat out refuse to move off Mack’s wing. Why would you? He’s got a year and a bit to ufa and playing Mack is his guaranteed paycheque.

lol well the good thing is that as the coach, you don't really need to ask the players where to play them. Necas should be tried on the 2nd line at some point, just to see what options we have on the roster because we know Mack can work with any of our other top 3 wingers.

Anyways, a scenario no one has brought up yet that could be a possibility is Marner signing with the Avs. We talk about Sid, Marchand and even maybe Rants returning but Marner could be a possibility. I mean, I don' t think we have the cap either way but there's probably a way for it to happen if both sides are motivated.

Marner is Mack's buddy, he's already got his bag and he hasn't won a championship. Maybe he takes less to chase glory with his friend.

Do not ever bring in a winger with the thought of them playing C again. At least not until Bednar has been put in his place. He works for the GM and at some point needs to start using the pieces he's given for the purposes they were brought in for. If he can't manage a gameplan around that, then he needs to f***ing go yesterday. I'm not blaming Bednar for Jost or Newhook sucking. I'm blaming him for not imediately moving them to wing. Same with Mitts. I can't blame him for Mitts being in the lineup but I can bash him for doing nothing to really create different identities for his lines based on their talent.

It's gotta suck for CMac to be giving Bednar pieces and see him continously throw them to the side. Especially the deadline aquisitions. CMac brings in sandpaper like we've not had in a long time with both Yakov Trenin and Brandon Duhaime. Bednar somehow f***ed them both up. He just doesn't know what to do with players who aren't as good as MacKinnon and Makar.

Don’t agree on the Bednar stuff. He’s a solid coach, and isn’t likely going anywhere.

I do agree on the center thing though. No more trying wings at center. The need better 2C play, and that’s going to need to come from an actual center, not a wing in costume.

I doubt Marner or Rants would take enough of a discount that we’d be able to fit them under the cap (especially given our abundance of wings and 2c need). But I’m curious what the highest number we’d be willing (or able) to go to. $10m/year?

There is one other potential avenue though with the cap increase, which is sign a 1yr deal this offseason. Then you either have a handshake agreement to re-sign a long term deal the next offseason, or the player can get a massive long term deal elsewhere when a lot of teams will have a ton of cap space.

That could be risky though especially given Mikko/Marner’s ages and they may (and likely will) want to secure their long term bag more than anything.

One reason Necas might still be willing to give up playing with Mack and try at 2C for us is because he knows he would get more money as a C than W. He would also have better Ws and most likely they would also be better defensively here than in Carolina. IMO it is still worth a try. Here is the advantage of getting McCann. You play Necas at C and McCann on the W and then if you are behind and need a goal you can load up the 1st line with Necas on Mack's W and McCann slides to 2C. Necas at 3C makes the top 2 lines more balanced talent-wise and cap-wise. It would be hard to split Mack and Necas though because they are so exciting to watch together.
