Rumor: 2024-2025 Trade Rumors and Free Agency Talk | Part Deux

He wouldn’t be available, but Owen Tippett would be the perfect player for us.

1. Speed/Skating: Effortless skater. Blinding speed. 98th percentile in top speed, 98th percentile in bursts 20-22 mph, 99th percentile in bursts 22+ mph.

2. Shoot-first mentality: 12th in the NHL in shot attempts per 60 minutes. Rips it from anywhere.

3. Size: 6’1”, 210 pounds and uses his frame. Thick boy. 4th on the Flyers in hits.

4. Age: 25 years old. Entering prime.

5. Contract: Locked up for 8 years at $6.2m AAV.

Man, I’d pay a pretty penny for Tippett but the Flyers would be nuts to move him.

I've thought Tippet could be a good fit on the Avs in the past as well.

Think he might be good on zone entires too, but I can't remember for sure. This is always a hallmark of players that fit the Avs well and guys they target.

He's a winger though right? Or has he been playing center? Doesn't seem like they have a spot for him, either short or long term on the wing, do they? Unless they let Drouin go, which seems unlikely now.

He’s a winger.

I have zero faith in Val Nichushkin to stay healthy or clean. Sorry.

Tippett would be awesome.

Understandable. The way I view it is they just have to build their team this year assuming he's part of it, unless they know something we don't.

Cap and assets could be a hurdle too, trying to improve 2C, improve the D core, and bring in another big salary on wing. Would be awesome if they could pull it off though.

Oh Mikko definitely fkn understands why he's not worth 14M now lol.

Sad.. he needs to fire his agent. 100%

If his goal was to stay here, he and his agent both f***ed it up lol.

My prediction, Mikko takes a prove it deal. I think absolutely no one is going to trust him, and I don't think his production is going to do anything but tank further on that team.
No chance he takes a prove it deal. He'll take as much money as he can. A prove it deal could go badly and would have relatively little to gain, just as Klingberg

Don't they need centers in the worst possible way? Maybe you can convince them that Mittelstadt is the answer to their woes

If the Canes hand him anything close to 100M deal as I heard speculated and he doesn't immediately sign it, his agent should fire him.

Joking aside, I wonder at what point his agent started feeling uneasy or if he's still thinking everything is fine.

Mittelstadt rankings among players who have taken a minimum of 400 faceoffs this year:

xGF - 68th
CF% - 61st
Points - 66th

I don’t want to hear that our expectations of our 2C are simply too high.

Mittelstadt is playing like either a high end 3C or the worst 2C in the NHL.

Take your pick, it’s not good enough.

We could argue that he had terrible linemates for the start of the season, which is true.

But there's no excuse since some of the guys came back from injuries.

How's Couturier skating these days?

Not sure how I feel about this, but what if they do Mitts+Val for Couturier+Tippett? Throw in another good piece for $1M retention on Couturier. Couts would have to waive his NMC though. Philly seems like a team not too concerned with Val's history.

I'd be more concerned with Couturier's back injuries than Val's nose candy

Yeah fair point. I would too.

I, perhaps naively, am not as concerned with Val staying clean this year. Long term, maybe, but I think he has some motivation to make up for hurting the team before, by getting at least one good playoffs under his belt.

I said the same thing about Kadri after his suspension too. Hopefully I'm 2 for 2 on that read.

That would be a terrible arguement to make, since the majority of anything positive happening with Casey came from October playing with those terrible linemates.

Dude had 13 points in first 10 games, freaking fantastic start eh? Even if he was a minus player we were loving everything about what he was doing. Then came Oct. 30th and he was held pointless (only the third time) and as you said...playing with "terrible" linemates.

He had an assist in a loss on Nov. 2nd and the next game we started getting re-enforcements in the form of Lehkonen and his play started to become erratic. When JD and Nuke joined the team (Nov. 15) Casey would go on a terror collecting 2 points in the following 10 games whilst completely dismantling himself.

The guys got over 414 games in the NHL. I haven't seen a vet under 30 implode like this in a hot moment.

I think the only reason Mikko wouldn't sign that is because he wants to play elsewhere.

He said he didn't need more than Nate on the Avs. I'm sure he'd take $13M if he likes it in Raleigh.

I have a feeling the purpose of this leak though, is so the team can let fans know they were willing to give him a very good offer early on, in case he walks like Guentzal.

Just saw a similar report from last June, with Friedman saying he heard Guentzal ask for an 8x8, and the Canes said yes, but they were waiting for it to get hammered out. Seems like similar motivation.

He will get paid, top UFAs always do. It also hasn't been a long enough stretch of games to make any definitive judgements on his play away from the Avs.

Do people realize Zegras doesn't play center anymore on Anaheim? His most common linemates are Alex Killorn and Leo Carlsson.

He's a winger.

I mean this has also been the only time he's been away from MacKinnon. It'll definitely get teams thinking if this is what he is away from MacKinnon. Can we afford Rantanen at 11.5 if he decides to come back though?

Duck fans seem adamant that Zegras is much better at center then wing. Seems to be a slight rift with Cronin and player. Get him while his value is lowest!

Does anyone remember who mitts' linemates were when he was hot this year and last year? Was it nuke?
  • The first 15 games of this year (his best stretch), he played with Kovalenko and O'Connor, with some Ivan mixed in.
  • Last post-season, he played with Parise and Lehkonen, with some Mikko mixed in.
  • Last regular season, his linemates were juggled a lot. Most common were Lehkonen, Nichushkin, Duhaime, and Drouin (in that order).
