I think that will change with a better 2C. Right now Bednar doesn’t trust Mitts to put him out there much, and not just PP, even strength too

The problem with moving on from Mitts is that almost every solution brings back a player that's basically at worse an even swap. At least from what's "available".

I’m just looking around the league for 2C options for the Avs, and there aren’t many. Stephenson wouldn’t be a bad one if he’s available. The guy is a consistent 60 point scorer, good defensively and always over 50 percent on faceoffs. I mean what else could we ask from a 2C?

Could the Avs make the cap work with trading Mitts++ to Vancouver for EP? Still lots of smoke about his long term fit in Vancouver. Or is this a pipe dream?
I do think Mitts, Ritchie, 1st and something else could be a realistic trade if Vancouver wants to move on from EP

We can’t afford EP this year even with Landy on LTIR. Maybe if they take Mitts, and Landy stays on LTIR, it can work, but then we wouldn’t be able to fix the defense which is a must. The Avs desperately need at least one good d-man if not 2

Points are a wash with Mittelstadt, but Schenn PKs and throws a million hits. You don't get a total zero when he's not scoring. Not to mention the Blues stink and are 28th in scoring.
St. Louis fans might not be able to stomach trading their captain to Colorado. But it's not like these teams haven't made massive trades before, and the Blues need to get younger.

Swapping Mittelstadt for Barzal on the roster still leaves $2.199m in capspace with the roster below.
Swapping Kylington for Jones at $7.5m puts the team $4.256m over the cap with the roster below:
Moving Manson out would be enough on its own to make the roster cap compliant by $220k. But it would be a 21 man roster, as shown below.
Moving Wood would be the logical move to enable a 22 or 23 man roster.
Alternatively you could move Colton and Wood instead of Manson and also be cap compliant.

Barzel isnt a good enough shooter imo to be a good fit. Kadri worked out well cause he was a faceoff beast, gritty and can score 30 goals. Mitts is just not multidimensional enough offensively but id still like to see him play consistently with Nuke and rants or Necas
