Barzal is currently their winger because I think he just transitions better from C to W then either Nelson or Horvat.
But I think k he could work here. At minimum, he has the skating component for it to work.

Well, it can't get any worse performance-wise

No Nuke is really exacerbating things. With Mitts not creating really any offense centering a line with a pass-first Drouin and a not-probably-2nd-liner Parssinen, they really are kind of time killers as a line. I will say that the 3rd line has been very entertaining, just throwing it at the net and crashing and banging all over the place. Then you have a very defensively responsible 4th line that keeps things pretty copacetic until we put out the assassin line.

We'll get Nuke back and that will turn the 2nd line into something much better, regardless of how they shift the top six or if we manage to swap Mitts for a 2C. We can fantasize about Landy getting in for the playoffs and that likely makes a huge difference, from just the effort standpoint alone you'd imagine the team would get buoyed by his return. I think we need a big bodied or sturdy heavy minutes D, and probably another vet D just to be sure, and then some kind of useful older forward like Donato or Bjugstad for the bottom six. We can go all in.

You know Lou is dreaming of getting Manson to replace Dobson on the right side while Mitts can be flipped to Vancouver in the Pettersson deal. I think Lou/Roy would be interested in Miles Wood, too.

Not easy but it's doable, especially if you can pass them in the Barzal and Jones deals.

We know that Manson, Wood and Colton are exactly the type of players that Lou and Roy love so that's a start.

The problem with Barzal is that he hasn’t played C in 2 years and is injured

We have just under $6m cap space.

Mittelstadt + Manson = $10,250,000

Dump Wood somewhere = $2,500,000 and replace with $1m player

Done.

The biggest issue is the Avs probably want to keep Manson for this year and he also has a 12 team NTC. Don’t know if the Isles are on it.

IMO if you’re gonna upgrade the team like that for a cup run you keep Manson until the offseason IMO. We need someone like jones to push Manson to the bottom pairing. The team is just too soft without Manson.
