They'd probably do that if their season wasn't going so good. They have playoff revenue up for grabs.

Maybe like 20%

Mitts is still an amazing player, and maybe he has a real spark with Huberdeau or something. It's a shame, because if Nuke stayed healthy, I really think Mitts would blossom with him and Lehks.

Mittelstadt for Kadri would be a disaster for CMac optically. I don't think that's a trade he can make.

Basically giving up Byram to have Kadri play for Calgary for 3 years and getting him back at $500k higher than he could have been signed for free three years ago... Meanwhile having a void at 2C for the better part of 2-3 seasons and using Kadri's capspace on Johansen who cost a 1st rounder to dump. Yiiikes.

CMac has been pretty decent at rectifying mistakes, but essentially losing Byram for nothing would probably heat his seat up quite a bit.

I don't disagree on the optics, but I don't think CMac has an ego like other GM's. I don't think he takes his job security into account with his personnel decisions. He's a "that was then, this is now" kind of guy.

He admitted the mistakes in RJ, Tatar, Georgiev, and Annunen. He had the balls to risk messing up the dressing room chemistry and ruining their playoff chances with a Mikko mid season trade.

If he thinks they can win a Cup with that move, and it's the best center for the price he's willing to give up, I think he'll do it.

Watching Naz yesterday, there was a noticeable difference between him and Mitts in being able to generate offense. Noticeable as in Kadri was able to generate good chances, Mitts just moved his body and skated in a way that drew attention to himself, but didn't really generate any offense.

Avs really need some secondary scoring on the 2nd line. They're too much of a one line team offensively.

Val and potentially Landy will help, but they can't really count on them. They need more offense from their 2C, and specifically more goals. That will make a HUGE difference in this team's ability to win games.

The appeal of Jones is that he's an absolutely elite PKer that would take Cale off PK1 duty and perhaps off PK altogether with Manson there. We know Bednar would still use Cale on PK because Bednar will do Bednar things, but the option of him not playing PK is more realistic with Jones.
I'm not a needy man, just get me Dumoulin ASAP so he can acclimatize during the Four Nations and be ready to go after the tournament.

Yeah, we're on the same page RIAL with Jones and Dumoulin.

Jones is the right stylistic fit for the Avs. Size, two way game, PK ability, some offense, big point shot, can step into a top pairing or PP1 role if Makar goes down. Brings a true Big 3 on D, no offense to G or Manson.

Dumoulin also brings size though isn't very physical, good defensively, can fight, is mobile, another PKer, another vet with lots of playoff experience, shouldn't cost too much to acquire.

Takes Cale off the PK so you can go with Toews, Jones, Manson, and Dumoulin.

Avs become much harder to play against, which has been an issue for the D core in the playoffs in recent years. Also the perfect blend of offense/defense/size/mobility to play any way you want against any opponent in the playoffs.

Toews - Makar
Girard - Jones
Dumoulin - Manson

Would be the best D core in the NHL IMO. Six good defenseman, with lefty-righty combos on each pair, each playing with a partner that's a good stylistic fit for them, everyone slotted into the appropriate role in the depth chart that suits them, and they can switch up all the D combos if they need to, since nearly all the lefties and righties are a good stylistic fit (except G-Makar IMO) for each other too.

Love it , Theo cost could be prohibitive though :/

We'll see what a retained Jones might cost, but Dumoulin shouldn't impact their other trades.

He was traded for a 4th in the off season and a thread here in December thought his value might be around a 3rd.

Avs don't have a 3rd in the next two drafts, but they could find one. They could also do a 2nd if needed. Draft picks don't really matter at this point.

I think @Pierce Hawthorne worked out a deal with the Ducks fans before.

COL: 2025 NYR 2nd
ANA: Dumoulin @ 50% + 2025 DET 4th

Sounds like something the Avs would do. Might need to forgo the 4th to outbid, but I think the Avs would still do it. Could also offer the Canes 2025 2nd, since that probably has less value.

Dumoulin also has a 10 team NTC if that stayed in place after the off season trade. So that helps the Avs.

Seth Jones cooking tonight with Colorado and 15 other teams scouts in attendance.

1 goal
1 assist
3 shots on goal
4 hits
4 blocked shots
19:28 ice-time

Game isn’t over yet.
Make the f***ing trade tonight god damnit and do not let the tournament begin without it happening.

Send Mitts the other way for all I give a mother f***. Find a different 2C later and play Colton there for the time being.

9:34 for Mitts tonight. Only beat Parsnip and Wood. Whatever glimmer of hope he showed recently is gone again. I don't know what the fix is, but something has to be done.

There was no hope. He got a couple of assists and all of a sudden some people thought he was fine and we didn't need to replace him anymore.

It wasn't real.

Oof yeah. Almost a minute lower than his previous lowest TOI this year—and a game where they needed as much firepower as possible to match Edmonton.

I’m wondering if when return from the break and he’s gone. This feels like the beginning of the end.
