If you can parlay Mitts into Byfield you add whatever is absolutely necessary to get it done

On another note, I think Dallas is our biggest competition for Jones, which would drive up the price. They have the need, better prospect trade chips and can always include some salary going out
There’s little doubt. I fully expect both Dallas and Colorado to be the two teams calling on him. He wanted to end up in Chicago, Colorado or Dallas when he decided he was done in CBJ.

Byfield would fit in so nicely. Not sure why the Kings would do it, unless they really think Mitts would fit in and they are just looking for a change of pace.

I actually think Mitts would thrive in the Kings style. But yes, they have no reason to move Byfield, especially with Mitts as a main piece.

Makes me think Avs would have to add a guy like Ritchie in to get it done (with retention). I'm guessing a Dallas deal would look like Bourque + Dumba + 2026 1st. Avs could counter with Ritchie + Wood + 2026 1st. Of course, there's Mittlestadt too, which might be the deciding factor. That would hinge on the Avs having a second trade lined up for a replacement.

Both teams also have Colton or Marchment that could be included in deals, but both have some trade protection (with Colton's being a full NTC). Stars have about ~500k more in deadline cap space, and Dumba makes more than Wood. Both are pretty equal trade value contracts at this moment,

It'll be interesting to see how it shakes out. So many of the top teams have a need for a top 4 RHD (what else is new) and so little are available. With the the fit and Jones' NMC a big factor, I'd hope the Avs would be most aggressive towards him, leaving the Stars to battle teams like the Panthers, Jets and Leafs for Pulock/Ristolainen/whoever else

Agreed with most of this, although I don’t see Dallas dumping Marchment. Would be very happy to add him.

Colton/Dumba definitely would be the dump looking at both rosters and caps. Likely Jones at 20-25 percent retention. I could see a Donato or Kurashev definitely included for the prices you named. I would be very happy with either of those returns, and I’m one of the Hawks fans who likes Jones.

The style both teams play and how close they are, he really feels like a piece that would allow either team to separate from the other monsters in the west (EDM/VGK/Avs/Stars/Peg)

In an effort to bank cap space, @Richard88 has placed the lumber yard on LTIR and called up Trent Miner and @RoyIsALegend.
As GM of the Colorado Avalanche I strongly deny these rumours.

Wood has already been traded and Miner is staying in the minors where he belongs.
@RIAL has had his contract terminated for unsportsmanlike conduct. This matter will be handled internally and nothing more will be said about the matter at this time.

I think Mitts is pretty close to 1:1 in value for Kadri given their ages and cap hits. Small plus perhaps from the Avs. CGY likely got the best years out of Naz already. If they're moving on, I think Mitts would be one of the better guys for them to target and build around.

Jones I don't get the impression would cost an arm and leg, because of his $9.5M cap hit. They're buying low on him hoping for him to play better on a contender for once in his career. Price is mostly dependent on if and how much Chicago retains.

I think they have the assets for both. As you allude to, they should be willing to move out most everything, aside from Nabokov. Ritchie + Gulyayev + 1st should have pretty decent value.

If they're bringing in a 2C and a #3-4RD under contract for multiple years, then there isn't a lot of need for Ritchie and Gulyayev anyway.

Mittelstadt for Kadri would be a disaster for CMac optically. I don't think that's a trade he can make.

Basically giving up Byram to have Kadri play for Calgary for 3 years and getting him back at $500k higher than he could have been signed for free three years ago... Meanwhile having a void at 2C for the better part of 2-3 seasons and using Kadri's capspace on Johansen who cost a 1st rounder to dump. Yiiikes.

CMac has been pretty decent at rectifying mistakes, but essentially losing Byram for nothing would probably heat his seat up quite a bit.

Really wish they would get rid of the loser point. It props up too many bad teams and bunches up the standings.
I really wished people would stop calling it the "loser point". It's actually more like the "winner point" as teams already get a point for being tied after regulation, and then there is an extra point available for the winner.

Can we talk about Rantanen's stats with the Canes (ie: away from Mack) ?

Before tonight he had 1G 1A in his last 5 games...and so far no point tonight either. If he keeps this up there's no chance in Hell the Canes will offer him the contract he's hoping for.
They will try no matter what. They traded for him to make him an offer.. They are afraid of Guentzel situation again.

Also Mikko is on a cold streak.

Love Necas here. He is so slick at zone entry with that timed stick lift when guys come at him where MacK likes to control the puck on his stick as he is coming in the zone. I saw MacK do what Necas does a couple times over the last few games, has he learned a new trick? Or an old trick but sees how well it works for Necas?

I am still thinking MacK and Necas should drive their own lines because it's just insanely awesome to have two MacKs on separate lines. Let them play together on powerplay.

Because if they play on same line, always one has to just wait for the opportunity to carry the puck which is their strongest strength. These guys can drive their own likes easily and spread out scoring imo.

But of course right now we have a super line. Total domination. Necas and MacK. Its so beautiful to watch.

As long as this works, better not to touch it. MacK seems to enjoy, Necas seems to enjoy.. Makar saying Necas will be a star. It's looking good.

The only thing that matters is if the trade works or not. If it works, who cares what happened previously. If it doesn't work, he's on the hotseat regardless.

If Kadri was available, and judged to be a better option than Mittelstadt and you could make it work cap and assets wise, you pull the trigger. And I have no doubt CMac would.

Yeah CMac isnt the sleepy CMac anymore. He is not afraid to make moves. Look at Rants trade. That took some balls.

Im sure the Ducks are in no rush to move Dumoulin since hes going to be so easy to move they are probably holding out for the best possible return but thats a move Id love CMAC to make yesterday. As an alternative Im pretty intrigued by Soucy as well.

Still need a righty to PK and push Manson down too

Like I have always said about trading a star player...it is always about the return and Oh man! Am I loving this return!

Necas is so exciting moving his feet constantly which creates so much chaos. Drury is the cherry on top.

Oh and Necas is able to stay on his feet.

Oh and one more thing.....he doesn't take stupid penalties.

I could go on.........Great deal.

Continuing with the status quo rather than making a move to upgrade because he's afraid of what people on the outside think about three years ago should heat it up even more. Admit the mistake and move on.
