Alright no more trades cmac. My heart cant handle it. Seeing my fave hockey team trade mikko and bball team trade luka is just too much

I'm at the point of accepting we will try to solve the 2C position from within. Mitts has historically been a big-game player, so my gut tells me they give him one more chance to show something before they think of cutting bait for a marginal upgrade.

Plan A: See how Mitts looks with healthy wingers (Landeskog would do him wonders)
Plan B: Try Necas there an move Mitts down/to the wing
Place C: Give Parssinen a look - maybe with Necas on the wing

Outside an unexpected trade for Stephenson/Malkin/Nelson (all of which are unlikely), let's target another C to improve depth (ala Gourde) or a legit top 9 winger to insulate our Cs - of which there are plenty of options. (Crouse)

But basically fix the D before anything, and go get Seth Jones.

Yeah that's our best shot. Just make the team extremely deep everywhere else.

Zegras wouldn’t solve that. So we are going to spend a bunch of our assets, for a guy that’s trending backwards and isn’t really a C.
Think of the upside though. If he gets back to his best he's a legit game-breaking forward on the 2nd line. Heck you could even give him both Lehkonen and Nichushkin and let him do his thing.

Drouin - MacKinnon - Necas
Lehkonen - Zegras - Nichushkin
Colton/Wood - Mittelstadt - Parssinen
Kelly - Drury - O'Connor
Kiviranta

Then add Landeskog to that mix and you essentially have a top line, two 2nd lines, and 2/3's of a 3rd line.

I just reeeaallllyyyyy worry about Zegras' mentality. The guy made Ryan Getzlaf HATE coming to the rink to be his teammate.

I can't imagine much has changed.

Is there no more salary cap?

I’m down for McDavid, if so.

You are really too hard on yourself. You bring a lot to this board. For example I have learned from you that using a hooker is not cheating. That is the most important piece of information. Thank you. No really. Thank you very much.
Also, when you pull someone’s finger and they fart, it’s not really the finger that makes them fart, it’s because they have gas

If it doesn't work, he's a nothing sandwich, and we have to pay him 5.75 for next year or pay to get rid of him.

Zegras has a $5.75m caphit. Ava have $5.599m in capspace. Just need to find $151k plus whatever you need for a Dman. Doable.

So you want to get a shit enigmatic winger to play 2C, and scrape the bottom of the barrel to upgrade the D?

I'm calling for CMac's head if that's his way of going all in.

No reason to bring in a project player like Zegras when we already have Mittelstadt and Pärssinen. I can only see two ways we acquire a C: Someone who's elite defensively but inexpensive so Bednar plays the 2nd line more, or someone who's a proven 2C in exchange for Mitts.

Im just trying to make sense of the idea someone else posted. I agree it's far from a perfect solution to 2C.

Islanders aren't trading Barzal for Mitts+

Just like the Blues aren't trading Thomas for Mitts+
The player you want from the Blues is Buchnevich, not Thomas.

This market is downright awful for buyers.

There’s… nothing to buy.
Where is your boy ROR going? Does he want to move? I would take him as a 3rd line centre if he doesn't mind coming back on the Avs, skating is an issue, but I trust him a lot more than other players out there.

Yeah, it seems that this year compared to others, a lot of the top UFAs are already on contending teams. Going through Puckpedia's list, the market will probably include Zucker, Palmieri (who is obsessed with Lou), Nelson, Donato, P. Kane, Grzelcyk, Evans, Nyqvist, Kunin, Gourde, Beauvillier, Tanev, Lindgren, and Frederic who is the last player I stopped on. Some good players in that list, but not really difference makers and I could see bidding wars for the few top-calibre ones. I suspect that even a player like Jake Evans will go for a 1st+, but Tanev is definitely a player I would want to shore up the depth for the playoffs.

I get the thought exercises, but that player isn't worth forcing a lesser move on Defense.

If you were going to take a shot with him, it's an off season move IMO. That way it's easy to get rid of him early if it doesn't work.

Getting Jones to play behind Mittelstadt most of the time instead of Manson would probably help Mittelstadt somewhat. That would be my preferred solution at this point rather than going for a sub-par 2C solution for the sake of it. Balance cap with Wood + retention.

Then depending on capspace look at acquiring a 3LHD rental and a middle 6 forward if Landeskog isn't returning.

Drouin - MacKinnon - Nichushkin
Lehkonen - Mittelstadt - Necas
Colton - Drury - xxxx/Landeskog
Parssinen - Kelly - O'Connor
Kiviranta

Toews - Makar
Girard - Jones
xxxx - Manson

If this is possible to make happen they need to do it 100% IMO.

I don't believe getting Seth Jones does anything at all for Casey Mittelstadt being an insanely slow skater who loses all his puck battles and makes poor decisions with the puck.

You know what would be hilariously ironic? Going into the POs and Mitts goes off and plays a key role in another Avs SCC. Then we’d all get to grouse about lackluster RS Mitts. All players have their pros and cons I guess.

Okay new plan
Get Colton to waive for NJ to acquire Mercer
Give Mercer a trial run right before TDL
Send Mercer and minor + for a retained Jones at the actual deadline

Or use Mercer+ to get Crouse+Marino
