Olli will go away after awhile along with sad face but turkey girl isn’t going anywhere

I feel like the over/under line for who both gets the turkey girl reference and thinks it's funny is like 50 people. None of them are new users that have joined in the last 15 years.

The origin of turkey girl thread last year on the main board had 59 posts with many from the same people.

Is the plan to have to explain this to every new member that joins the site, because it doesn't look like a "wow" face?

i just work here.gif

Maybe it’s best to start making our peace with the fact we (Avs) likely won’t get anything , at least not something significant
Ain't this the truth. Actually reading all the reaches people are throwing out here makes me think that's fine, just get a rental D once more trades settle in. Just thinking of some of the names people in here were sure to be the answer in the past like Kevin Hayes makes me think no move is better than a bad move.

There is truly minimal out there:

Anaheim: Zegras is a mystery box who is probably better on wing.
Boston: Nobody
Buffalo: Tage isn't available
Calgary: Playoff push
Carolina: Contenders
Chicago: Nobody
Columbus: Nobody
Dallas: Rivals
Detroit: Nobody
Edmonton: Rivals
Florida: Contenders
L.A: "Contenders"
Minnesota: Playoff push
Montreal: Nobody
Nashville: Mayyybbee Ryan O'Reilly?
New Jersey: Contenders
NYI: Brock Nelson
NYR: Playoff push
Ottawa: Playoff push
Philadelphia: Nobody
Pittsburgh: Lol Sid? Not happening
St. Louis: Rivals
San Jose: Nobody
Seattle: Yanni Gourde? Currently hurt
Tampa Bay: Playoff push
Toronto: Contenders
Utah: Nobody
Vancouver: Elias Pettersson?
Washington: Contenders
Winnipeg: Rivals

There is genuinely nobody available unless you acquire the similar-to-Mittelstadt in production Brock Nelson.
Yeah, not sure why people want Brock Nelson. Granted, he was somewhat more productive last 2 seasons, but not really this year so far, and his career numbers before those 2 years are in the 40s. If Mitts issue is lack of production for 2C, i am not convinced Nelson is going to improve on that. Mitts, at very least, is younger.

The players cap hit still changes though based on days on the roster so it still matters.

If the Avs are up against the cap, and they have say $5M in LTIR space, they can't trade for a $7M AAV until later in the season when the prorated amount is less than $5M, with the divided by 192 days calculation.
Tbf i thought it works this way too, but now the other guys say it does not, i am very well confused 😆

I mean, i never really cared too much to actually fully read its nuances and understand it, but i thought i understood on some base level. So perhaps i didnt, lol - but if so, and despite the quotes you made it truly does not work that way, its rather unintuitive system.

Edit: as i was reading further down the thread, it seems to clear up a bit. Good posts Foppa.

Washington gives me optimism that our teams window will always have chances to open back up way down the line. As long as we have Mackinnon and Makar. The Rantanen trade really opens flexibility for us.

Although I think Cmac wants to go "all in" this year, I always feel he's one of the gm that values stretching the contention window further out as far as he can. I'm hoping he continues to get guys with term or RFA status, to keep us as competitive as possible.

Wait to see what Washington do in the playoffs before concluding that you can win with a core past it's prime

They the favorites to land that Russian that's been lighting up the KHL plus 1l goalie they have and drafted another.
Zamula too

He made it sound like there’s some history behind that. I remember the 97 SC and the Red Wings swept the Flyers. Detroit is known for having a history of several successful Russian players, the Flyers not so much.

Sure it looks like slim pickings when you look at it from a normal person's viewpoint.

Think about all the wingers the Avs could try and convert to centers and then options open up, big time!!! :sarcasm:

Slim pickings indeed. If Mittlestadt flops in the playoffs, I'd seriously consider a Zegras swap in the offseason. Both underachieving guys who could use the change of scenery.

MacKinnon might beat the f*** out of Zegras if that ever happened.

I think that exactly what Zegras needs. Got way too cocky coming into the league (NHL cover athlete, people hyping as a generational talent). He's now two seasons of injury ridden and underperformance. Remember when Mackinnon came out lighting the league on fire? Then had 3 mediocre seasons, and all the question marks came. I'm willing to bet on Zegras because the talent is clearly there. The risk/reward is greater then what we currently have in Mittlestadt who is entering Bednars s*** list.

I don't think I can watch another year of Mittlestadt if he keeps going the way he is. He looks like a softer Alex Kerfoot. At least Kerfoot actually hustled for the most part. Give me Zegras all day long.

We'll, the way I look at it is :

Maybe the Avs don't have an 'ideal' #2C situation like they would if they acquired a guy like Crosby or Petterssen.

Brock Nelson wouldn't be ideal either but he's a guy that can play #2C and also LW and he's another guy that you add to your Top-6/Top-9. That's really important when you have injuries in the playoffs.

So then maybe it's a situation where you've got a lot of different options for that #2C position (Necas, Mitts, Nelson) and maybe you're doing it more 'by committee' than having an idea candidate come in and replace Mitts.

I also like that you take him away as an option for other teams that want to trade for him like whipanegg.

The flip side of that, though, is he completely tunes MacKinnon/Makar out and acts just like he did when Ryan Getzlaf couldn't stand him, and his "dude bro" personality is who he is without a true care for winning at the NHL level.

Zegras with the Avs would be extraordinary. Anaheim with their coach plays a game that does not suit his style of play, Colorado is exactly the opposite. I could see Anaheim wanting Ritchie + Mittelstad + choices for Zegras and Dumoulin.
