@CobraAcesS @hockeyfish I stand corrected if this is true.
It's probably because you get to go over the cap on LTIR for the full amount, instead of a pro rated amount, but that still gives a very unfair advantage for other teams trying to trade for the same player.
Say a team is $2M under the cap, but a $10M player gets injured for the rest of the season.
So their choice is to either go on LTIR for $8M over the cap, and replace the player while not being able to make additional trades at the deadline for pro rated contracts like other teams.
Or don't replace the player so you can compete with other teams to trade for players on pro rated contracts later on at the deadline.
You could also have non playoff teams willing to wait and add expensive players under contract for the future at the deadline, while playoff teams have to possibly forgo adding the same player just so they can replace their injured player with LITR early in the season.
This seems very poorly thought through.
