Funny enough Malkin probably is one of the best available options out there right now for this team. I wouldn’t be shocked at all to see that happen.

He’d be good for Nuke too.
Wouldn't be against this at all. Would have been nice if Pettersson came with him, but the Pens have enough picks/other assets they can throw in for us to flip. Or get Pulju thrown in and jettison Wood in another trade.

Insiders would be like 'Penguins center heading to Colorado"

Do we have enough cap to add Jones ~7.5M and Malkin if only Mitts and Wood leave? 13.6 - 8.25 = 5.35M

Would be hard to add another D probably but maybe not impossible.

With Landy and Nuke on LTIR until the playoffs, which is pretty much what I'm expecting, they'll have tons of room to do what they want

He's injured, and they haven’t liked him when healthy this year.

There’s no realistic 2C options out there.

We really should just try Necas at center, but Bednar loves loading up his top line so it’s unlikely to happen. One of Necas’ frustrations in Carolina was not playing center. That’s his natural position.

Most teams would kill to have a 1-2 punch that just dominates the middle of the ice and drives play like MacK-Marty.

Put a Nuke or Lehky with him to do the heavy lifting defensively and let him focus on gaining speed up the middle and pushing the play up ice.

Trade Mittelstadt and something for a winger and a depth defenseman.
Or put Necas at 2C and keep Mittelstadt as 3C, and acquire a winger and Dman with other assets. I already suggested this a few days ago in the Rantanen trade thread, could work nicely:

Drouin - MacKinnon - Nichushkin
Lehkonen - Necas - xxxx/Landeskog
Colton - Mittelstadt - O'Connor
Wood - Drury - Kelly
Kivi/Parssinen

Yeah, nothing says you can't load up when needed, and Mitts with less minutes should be able to play up just fine in spurts.

They need to try it when Nuke comes back. They're not going to even entertain it unless they go into the four nations break strong or unless it's out of panic trying to create offense.

I think Mitts at 3C would be pretty useless. He’s not a physical, grinding type player who hustles out there(which is usually what the 3C does) he’s not very good defensively, and he’s already struggling offensively playing with skilled players. That offense would drop even more playing on the 3rd line

Nah, get Mittelstadt off this team.

He's actually pretty good defensively outside of the slump.

A lot like Stastny really.

If they try Necas at all at C, just throw mitts on a wing and see how they both do imo. That way mitts still gets some talent and he can occasionally pull off some nice passes which could hit Necas in stride.

Not this year he’s not. He’s been lazy and lackluster so far. I think he has the worst plus minus on the team with minus 13. I could be wrong about that though

This slump has been most of this year outside of 10 games.

Someone pointed it out, but he his line had the best xGF against STL. Bednar applauded his defensive game specifically after the game.

Mitts was a solid two way center prior to this stretch. It's why they traded for him.

His issues have also not been due to laziness.

I don’t want to completely give up on Mitts, but do the Avs really want to risk it and go with him at 2C in hopes of he’ll pick up his game? CMac has a month to figure that out I guess. All I know is we can’t go to playoffs with this version of Mitts as the 2C

That’s why I want Beds to drop Necas to 2c with mitts on wing, just for a few games to see what he looks like there. He’d probably have tried it if we weren’t fighting for our playoff lives.

It wouldn’t hurt to try that I guess. It’s either that or CMac most likely has to go for another 2C shopping….. again

Since I don’t know any centres to talk about, I’m going back to Seth Jones for a thought. Does the 3 year cap projection perhaps increase the likelihood of Chicago retaining on Jones?

By the time they’re really going to be ready to start winning the cap is going to be above 120M. At that point that 3.5ish mil don’t hurt as bad.

Walking a razor's edge here trying to find out where last nights Blues game was broadcast without spoiling the result.

Thought I remember seeing it upcoming on ESPN+, but it wasn't there last night after the game, and it's not there now.

Don't see that it was on TNT or NHL Network.

Anybody mind sharing whether the game was on ESPN+ or somewhere else without spoiling the result? Thanks in advance.

I watched the game on ESPN+ live, but I'm also not seeing it available for replay unlike the other 1/31 games. Not sure why

Thanks. f***ing ESPN. They've done this before. I don't know if they screw up the file or just don't care enough to upload it, but it's pretty annoying. I miss NHL.tv and HockeyStreams.

I took it further the other day, wondering if a 3rd team may actually be possible too with the cap floor rising. There is a big gap in the next years AAV vs actual cash on his contract.

If you can find a team worried about the cap floor rising, they'd probably take the retention. The last two or three years is like 2.5M in real cash. Could be paying like 800k for a 3M AAV.

I posted an example, but I can't find it.

Yeah, I went off earlier today because of this.
