Pettersson is going to have one hell of a spotlight on himself now (unless the Canucks trade him too). People are basically expecting him to turn back the clock 1.5 years immediately, now that the "problem" is gone. And if it doesn't happen fast? Well, one can only hope he has the attitude of Nylander in Toronto who simply doesn't give a f***.

I very much disagree with that. Mittelstadt would've been more enticing, but we didn't have any good D prospects to give and we probably wanted to keep that first to infact improve the D-corps if possible.

Chytil is very good, and probably his ceiling could be as high if not higher than Mittelstadt. But he has not been at his level so far, partly because of opportunity, and partly because of injuries. Chytil is at a worse position than Byram was a few years ago. Next hit could mean the end to his hockey career.

If the Canes had pivoted from Canucks to Avs does this mean Rants and Miller had roughly equal value?

If Chytil a first and Mancari were on the table as the other option I think Cmac did well to get Necas and Drury. Not having a first come back sucks. But do we really need to see the Avs draft Tyson Jost 4.0?
 
I'm glad he's off the table, known risk, no idea if it could work and locked in for 5 more years, could be dodging a bullet. I just can't think of a 2C replacement that won't cost assets the team currently doesn't have and/or that will move the needle. Not to mention they gave up Byram for Mitts and would think they'd want to give him until next season before cutting bate given the cost.

....Avs have a lot of holes at the moment relative to the other top contenders, not sure they have the assets to close them all. If Nuke and Landy can come back and they shore up at least two of the bottom half of the D core they might be able to make some noise but just not looking like its their year at all atm
 
Not sure I buy the Zegras buzz. This is a classic Elliotte Friedmann speculation nugget. He’s never really connected anything to the Avs as far as I know.

I truly can’t understand why he has the great reputation he does.

I don't think so. The reports have been they were willing to trade Necas for EP but not for Miller. Apparently Kotkaniemi would've been in the Miller deal.

He said an executive floated the idea, not that it was a rumor we had interest.

Mittelstadt at his peak might be a shade better but costs almost twice as much. Chytil 100% has more trade value than Mittelstadt even with his health concerns.

Not sure I agree. While Chytil has potential, because of his deployment in New York he hasn't really been able to show that constant production. His playing style is great. Mittelstadt has that over him.

And you simply can't gloss over the concussion issues. The salary difference isn't that big.
